The Private Client team in Scotland are now looking to recruit a
talented private client tax specialist at Senior Associate grade.
The Tax Scotland EPC team as a whole advises unquoted and listed
companies, partnerships, entrepreneurs and wealthy individuals. Our aim is a seamless
client service, from complex tax planning to compliance, working as trusted advisors
to our clients whether they simply want to manage their individual wealth or,
more often, when they want a joined up tax service which bridges the gap
between their business and their personal tax affairs.
The private client team has a wide range of clients including
international families, entrepreneurs, high net worth individuals and landed
estates. Whilst our focus is on the individual we also advise them in
connection with their businesses and investment vehicles which could be trusts,
companies or partnerships.
As a Senior Associate you will be encouraged to work on a variety of
clients and gain experience across all areas of taxation, including inheritance
tax, capital gains tax, income tax, residence and domicile issues and trusts.
You may also gain (for working with others in the Private Business Scotland
team) and use a working knowledge of other areas of tax which cross the
boundary into business taxes eg share
incentives and, to some extent, corporation tax, although you will not be
expected to be an expert in these areas.
You will also be encouraged to shape and actively manage your career
development through involvement in a broad variety of work.
Key skills
• Strong interpersonal and technical skills are a must as is the ability to take a lead role with clients and work independently. • As you will be encouraged to deal directly with clients, a passion for client service is important. • Strong organisational skills are necessary to manage working with a number of team members, across grades, and on your own varied client portfolio. You will receive a client portfolio to manage from day under the review/guidance of one of the more senior managers in the team. • Proficient written and oral communications are essential. • Previous experience in a private client tax role will be beneficial but is not essential if combined with a keenness and enthusiasm to learn and excellent intellectual ability.
About the role

clients, by providing them with exceptional client service, strong technical
know-how and tailored solutions to meet their personal and commercial
take advantage of the diverse backgrounds of our staff and our networks to
provide a unique one stop service for our clients.
Senior Associate in this team you will be involved in:
• Tax planning projects and ad-hoc advisory work, often with international aspects. • Technical research and report writing - including original research (review and interpretation of the legislation) as well as tailoring specific existing planning ideas to meet an individual client's needs and circumstances. • Being involved in the support and development of junior staff - sharing knowledge and expertise through team working and actively managing individual work-streams. • Taking a lead role in managing the client relationship - managing and controlling deliverables and deadlines, handling day to day queries and establishing role as the trusted/primary point of contact. • Working directly to Managers, Senior Managers and Directors in the team to support them in managing client relationships. • Assisting with the review of personal tax returns linked with your own client allocation, whilst considering whether any tax planning opportunities arise. You will not be preparing the tax returns only co-ordinating/project managing the service as all compliance activities are now carried out by a compliance specialist team. • Working across the other lines of service within Tax Scotland (e.g. Private Business, VAT and Corporate Tax) to build relationships and personal networks around the Firm and to help with knowledge sharing and providing a comprehensive service to our clients. • Being involved in business development as you will be part of a fast growing practise. This involvement can be tailored to suit your experience/preferences so could range from ensuring that all relevant opportunities available are taken to your existing client portfolio to direct new client marketing. • Private Client is a fast growing area within PwC and therefore offers room for progression for the right candidate.

• Experience of working in a Professional Services environment with Private Client experience is essential. • Part Qualified or a desire to study would be beneficial • The successful candidate will ideally have strong UK tax knowledge either through experience or through exam qualifications. We may consider a non-tax qualified candidate who can demonstrate significant intellectual ability and keenness to learn. • Experience of managing a portfolio of clients and leading client relationships.
• Candidates should be interested in being an all-round business adviser who enjoys working closely with clients to provide them with a pro-active service giving them innovative and commercial tax solutions.
