Head of Sustainability
At Kew we take our environmental sustainability and carbon reduction strategy as seriously as it gets. We work hard to achieve the highest of standards as we now take our efforts to the next level.
Having identified the need for this exciting new role, we now seek a highly driven lead that can make an immediate impact; to implement and drive forward new strategies and ensure we achieve our longer term goals in line with those set out by the UN.
Kew is the world's leading botanic gardens at the forefront of plant and fungal science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a major visitor attraction.
We want a world where plants and fungi are understood, valued and conserved - because our lives depend on them.
We use the power of our science and the rich diversity of our gardens and collections to provide knowledge, inspiration and understanding of why plants and fungi matter to everyone.
Supported by an existing team, and reporting to the Director of Horticulture, Learning and Operations, your focus will be on bigger picture thinking, ideas and strategies. You will be the driving force behind this step change in our commitment to environmental sustainability and be our greatest advocate in this space.
Already experienced in this emerging field, and with a strong track record from either a private or public background, you will be able to evaluate options for assessing our carbon footprint and strengthening our commitment to retaining the international standard ISO14001. With EMS experience and a full understanding or relevant legislation, you will be adept at working to budget, managing costs and assuring relevant grants and financial benefits to support our energy improvements and projects.
Initially a one year fixed term contract, subject to funding, there is potential for this role to be extended.
Our fantastic benefits package includes opportunities for continuous learning, a generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance, an Employee Assistance Programme and other wellbeing support such as cycle to work scheme and discounted gym membership. We also offer a competitive pension, an employee discount scheme and free entry into a wide range of national museums and galleries, as well access to our own beautiful gardens at Kew and Wakehurst.
