As a result of the team's current activity levels and future anticipated level of transport infrastructure investments and deal flow, we are now seeking to recruit at Assistant Director level to join PwC Corporate Finance - Transport infrastructure team. The team is looking to accelerate its growth in the rail sector, including expanding market presence outside of the UK in European emerging markets.
The role would represent an exceptional opportunity to join one of the UK's market leading corporate finance practices. It's a chance to move into corporate finance advisory from a related specialism (such as banking, infrastructure fund, transport industry or other related background), or to move from your current Infrastructure advisory role to a larger and more active advisory team, gaining immediate exposure to lead advisory transaction and advisory activity within a strong team of experienced advisors.
You will be a strategic thinker with a broad understanding of the UK and international infrastructure and project finance sector, with significant experience in executing transactions specifically in the rail sector, and have a keen interest in business development and excellent commercial awareness. In joining the team you will be expected to play a full part in supporting our growth plans.
The role demands strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, allied to natural personal initiative and the ability to handle pressure. Your intellect, enthusiasm, confidence, communication and people skills are very important.
About the role
As an Assistant Director within the PwC corporate finance team, the individual would expect to be involved in the following types of work:
• Leading project teams delivering on client engagements - primarily in the rail transport infrastructure sector but participating in wider infrastructure or corporate finance projects as may be required • Coordinating and contributing to preparation of project deliverables, client presentations, reports and pitch documents • Managing teams of people (including teams from other lines of service) as part of working on business opportunities and project delivery and liaising with a wide range of counterparties • Preparation of industry thought leadership documents with sector analysis • Active involvement in driving business development initiatives both in the UK and European markets establishing and developing client relationships and bringing business to the team • Acting as a coach and mentor to junior team members to help them develop their technical and soft skills • Regular networking and writing articles • Driving accounts, planning and budgeting for the key clients of the firm. • Conducting internal quality reviews of work undertaken by others, as part of PwC risk and quality procedures.
Typical projects would include advising on transactions involving rail transport assets, rail franchise bids, major rolling stock deals.
The base office will be London, with travel to client sites as required, including occasional business trips overseas.

We would expect interested applicants to be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
• University degree, preferably in corporate finance or economics; CFA or ACA qualification • Demonstrable experience in the railway sector infrastructure projects (transactions / procurements) with a leading financing and commercial role across all stages of the deal cycle, such as bidding, evaluation and execution. • Experience in a wider infrastructure transaction environment both locally and internationally, in particular in emerging markets of Eastern Europe • Practical experience of closing and refinancing major infrastructure projects, with developing financial close protocols and hedging arrangements, as well as designing payment mechanisms and risk allocations, is essential. • Knowledge of the policy, regulatory and commercial aspects of the UK and European rail sector. • An existing network of relationships with government and private sector infrastructure players that you will be able to leverage to support the growth of our rail sector practice. • Ability to advice on complex commercial issues, analyse inter-related issues and take a proactive problem-solving approach. • Ability to develop, review and interrogate complex financial models and strong quantitative analysis capabilities • Ability to work with a range of clients from government entities to corporates and to build effective working relationships in multi-disciplinary teams, with strong negotiating skills in a transaction environment. • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence when interacting with others • Strong written skills with demonstrable experience of producing high quality, tailored documents advising on complex commercial or financial issues • Experience of managing multi-specialism and cross-territory teams and acting as a coach to junior team members • Ability to work accurately under time pressure and manage multiple commitments • Fluent English; proficiency in one or more major Eastern European languages is a plus.
