The Stealth Materials Capability forms part of the Design and Materials Theme within the BAE SYSTEMS Advanced Technology Centre. The role of the Stealth Technology Group within the department is to conduct research into new stealth material technologies. Typically this could cover a whole range of materials including composites, paints and high temperature materials. A materials scientist or engineer is required to join the Stealth Technology Group to support the development of new and emerging technologies for utilisation in stealth materials. This role is based in Towcester.

As an Materials Scientist/ Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:

The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of activities to support the development of new technologies to help grow the current product base. Likely tasks include:

Undertake development of new materials technologies and provide design guidance for such.
Manufacture of test coupons and components
Carry out measurement of the physical and mechanical properties of materials and components.
Preparation of technical reports, test procedures, process specifications and other product documentation.
Liaison with both internal and external customers.

As an Materials Scientist/ Engineer, your main skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline with some proven experience in a materials related role.
Industrial experience is desired but not essential.
Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to use Microsoft office, particularly a good working knowledge of excel.
Membership of a recognised technical institute would be advantageous.

Strong ability to respond to customer requests, maintaining clear communication, correcting problems and taking action to make things better for the customer.
You will need to have proven experience of building and maintaining a friendly, reciprocal and warm relationships with networks of people.

Grade: P5
Salary: £26,000 - £32,000 + benefits
