Aura is the core suite of applications used by the Assurance Line of Service in each PwC network firm UK IT provides an Aura hosting & support service (including application upgrades) to more than 10 PwC network firms in other territories.
The Aura Technical Manager is a key member of the Aura Service Team, responsible for the technical services delivered to hosted territories, including planning, implementation and incident resolution, and reporting directly to the Aura Service Manager.
They are a proven technical expert in Microsoft products such as SQL server, IIS, .NET Framework and MS Windows Applications, giving them the ability to fully understand the Aura architecture, components and complexity and translate guidance from the development team into a UKIT Aura hosting design and service plan.
They are a team player, able to lead a technically focused team with assurance and confidence derived from experience, knowledge and understanding, and to interact, communicate and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders in the wider Aura Service team, other teams in UK IT (including senior management), the global development team, and territory IT as needed to overcome complexities, resolve issues and delivery a quality service.
Ideally they have prior Aura technical experience or substantial experience in the technical aspects of implementing and troubleshooting a mission critical application based on Microsoft technologies.
They hold a relevant degree at 2:1 level or higher.
About the role

• The Aura Technical Manager is a newly created role, offering an exciting opportunity to be a key technical subject matter expert for a high profile and high priority IT service, arising due to a change in sourcing strategy for this service. • They have overall responsibility for leading the Aura Technical team, who maintain the UK-hosted Aura application server components. They report to the Aura Service Manager. • They are a subject matter expert in the end-to-end Aura application suite, its technical components, the interactions between components, and the underlying platforms & server environments (primarily Microsoft based). • They work with the Aura Service Manager to appraise the technical implications of new / changed business requirements, including new releases from the development team e.g. on environment design, capacity management etc. • They translate development team guidance into environment designs, working with the Technical Design Authority community to ensure alignment to applicable standards, as well as other hosting centres. • They (and their team) hold administrative rights to the Aura servers, for the purpose of investigating incidents and implementing changes. • They (and their team) prepare and implement changes in response incidents / new business requirements (including new code releases from the development team). • They (and their team) interact with Application Support, Major Incident Management and the development team to diagnose and resolve incidents impacting the Aura users. • They (and their team) interact with the wider Data Centre Operations function, to direct incident investigation & resolution at the infrastructure, OS or base platform level. • As this is a new role, in a new team, there is significant opportunity to influence how it is implemented, including: • Providing IT leadership with recommendations around the numbers and required skills of individuals within the Aura Technical team • Adjusting the process, resource model and boundary of responsibilities with shared teams to find the appropriate balance of agility, stability, expertise and cost. • Participating in the candidate selection, interviewing process, recruitment, onboarding and team building. • Working with the Aura Service Manager to plan a seamless transition of responsibilities from existing teams.
Essential skills needed for the role:

• Education Level: Undergraduate Degree (e.g. BA, BSc). • Experienced in the technical implementation and operation of mission critical IT services. • Deep understanding of Microsoft products such as SQL server, IIS, .NET Framework and MS Windows Applications. • Able to acquire a comprehensive understanding of a complex suite of IT applications / components. • Able to apply knowledge to direct the resolution of issues and provide thought leadership on delivering new requirements / service. • Able to build and lead a team with diverse technical experience, and motivate them to ensure delivery of a quality service. • Able to work collaboratively with all stakeholders in the delivery of the Aura Service, including understanding and interpreting customer requirements in the technical context. • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a wide audience including senior stakeholders • Experience working in an ITIL-based framework
