Speech and Language Therapist - Neurology
Location: Twickenham, London, TW2 5QS, travel to private homes of clients and other venues as required
Salary: Band 6 £34,000 - £36,200 pro-rata (depending on experience)
Contract: Part-Time, 15 - 22.5 hours/week, Permanent
Integrated Neurological Services are now recruiting.
We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of the neuro-rehabilitation MDT providing integrated therapy to a high standard.
About the Speech and Language Therapist role:
Clinical
  • To undertake the highly specialist assessment, including swallowing, of people with neurological conditions and to analyse your findings to form an effective intervention rehabilitation program with client centred SMART goals
  • To provide highly specialised advice and education on SLT assessment and treatment for people with neurological conditions based on theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience. To be consulted frequently for specialist advice and guidance by other team members, volunteers and other health care professionals as required
  • To manage clinical risk within own caseload and that of designated team members
Management of Physical Resources
  • To be responsible for competent use of all SLT equipment used within the clinical area ensuring that designated staff attain competency prior to use
  • To ensure that all equipment defects, accidents and complaints are reported to the senior therapist immediately and that appropriate action is taken by those concerned and documented accordingly
General
  • To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service
  • To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act, Caldicott principles and the General Data Protection Regulation and any future amendments
  • To promote at all times equality of opportunities for staff and clients in accordance with INS policies, to ensure that no person receives less favourable treatment than another on the grounds of sex, marital status, race, religion, creed, nationality, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation or disability, with due regard to the promotion of diversity in the workplace
  • To participate in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of assistant staff, SLT students, other students and MDT staff and volunteers as required

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications required:
  • Two years postgraduate experience of working with a range of neurological conditions in adults.
  • Ability to assess people with neuro-impairments and to be able to plan a goal-based intervention programme.
  • Experience of integrated working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Awareness of what constitutes effective integrated MDT working
  • Good working knowledge of anatomy, physiology and psychology relevant to client group
  • Working knowledge of safeguarding issues/policy
  • Good understanding of personal health and safety responsibilities
  • Ability to work single handily with individuals and in groups
  • Excellent non-verbal communication and interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills
  • Ability to be able to supervise and delegate appropriate work to Rehabilitation Assistants and supervised volunteers
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Competent in use of IT
