Senior Network Engineer (contractor, based in Amsterdam)
Description of position:
On behalf of our client we are looking for a Senior Network Engineer (only contractor) in Amsterdam to join a growing team, delivering world-class services to a global telecommunication company.
Main responsibilities are: • Build of new network across the Client's footprint including additional capacity to support growth and product roadmap; • Assist with the day to day business within the Network Planning Team; • Contribution to the Mergers & Acquisitions process in terms of technical assessments of the networks in question; • Achieve project related deliverables within agreed and communicated timelines; • Problem resolution within agreed SLAs; • Performance, resilience and stability of the network design solutions provided; • Engineering design: o Understand the business requirements and translate them into technical network solutions (capacity and functionalities) o Produce detailed network layouts and data centre design; o Creation of the network Low Level Design (LLD) based on the High Level Design (HLD) and the Connectivity matrix; o As part of the LLD, validate that the network can support the required capacity; o Design and plan the Datacentre network in an optimal and cost effective way, according to company technical guidelines; o Produce network engineering solutions and designs, implementation & migration plans and documents taking into account all related network elements; o Review and validate design and migration plans of consultant engineers. • Implementation o Create Change Request tickets describing in detail the network changes required to support new projects needs; o Provide impact assessment describing potential risks and impact on running business services; create roll-back plan; o Present the Change Requests to Change Approval Board and gain authorization to implement them; o Implement the required changes across the network equipment within designated maintenance hours and follow the procedures prescribed by the Change Management processes; o Hand over the implemented changes to Operations and to 3rd parties; • Problem and Compliance management: o Deal with major incidents in terms of Tier-3 escalations; o Provide root cause analysis on major incidents and follow up on corrective measures; o Discover and address systematic problems in the network design; o Liaise with the vendors for major incident and problem management; o Regular updates to management, status reporting, risk management, escalation management; o Update capacity planners about progress and get their input to review timeline for completion of capacity upgrades and Completion of internal project documentation. • Testing: o Perform Lab testing of major software loads and new hardware components; o Perform end to end testing of engineered solutions before the implementation takes place. Context/Environment: • Position is within the Data Centre Network Department; • Position is based in Amsterdam; • International travel as required (weekly fly-backs to home city are allowed). • Work outside of business hours required on regular basis • 1-2 times per week within designated maintenance hours (11pm • 2am)
Education, Key knowledge and experience required: • Minimum 10 years of experience in IP Networking and service providers • Bachelor degree in Information Technology or Computer /Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience; • Strong knowledge of ISP Data centers Design with special focus on IP Networks, Security and Application Delivery Solutions; • Strong knowledge of high end Cisco and Nexus platforms; • Strong knowledge of Checkpoint Firewalls and F5 load balancers (Application Delivery Controller) including Management Infrastructure as well as Firewall Enforcement Points; • Very strong troubleshooting skills; • Experience with Cisco ACI and SDN • Excellent mastering of Microsoft Visio for network diagrams/designs • Good Experience with Unix Systems and scripting languages; • Experience in the design and build of networks and services, creation of LLDs and HLDs, network capacity validation, project management, as well as relevant IT skills; • Good understanding of MPLS and dynamic routing protocols • Expert user of Microsoft Windows, Office Suite and Visio; • Fluent in spoken and written English; • Good interpersonal skills, able communicator; • Experience in multinational and multicultural environments.
