The role holder will be a Senior Finance Manager working with the Consulting Finance Leader, four Finance Managers and four Finance Executives to provide commercial decision support to the Consulting Finance Director and Consulting Commercial Partner, the four Consulting Business Unit Leaders and their Leadership teams.
Consulting comprises of a total of 150 Partners and 2200 client facing staff. As the Business Units are located in More London and Hays Galleria there will be a requirement to work in both buildings.
Applicants should be commercially minded with a deep business understanding and be able to deliver quality results with a challenging but positive and influencing style.
Excellent numerical / analytical skills are also required plus strong written and verbal communication skills
About the role
Main areas of responsibility
Business strategy & strategic planning
• Supports the Finance Leader, working closely with the Business Unit Leadership to provide input into the preparation of the financial aspects of the business plan. Helps identify, develop and prioritise delivery of the firm's strategic and operational financial objectives within the business unit
Budgeting & forecasting
• Responsible for preparation of the business units' annual budgets and forecasts in line with centrally defined guidelines, liaising with and gathering input from all appropriate sources across the business unit, applying market, industry and firm knowledge for Finance Leader review.
Performance management & improvement
• Responsible for drafting the interpretation of the monthly financial results and provision of insightful commentary to the Finance Leader and business teams to supplement standard information provided by the MI centre of excellence. Able to interpret and communicate results of business performance.
• Employs strong business analysis skills to identify underlying business issues from financial data and trends. Proposes and discusses actions with the Finance Leader and supports implementation to address areas of poor performance.
• Responsible for understanding and monitoring working capital position and influencing the Business Unit to improve.
• Working with the Finance Leader in analysing client profitability and seeking profit/margin improvement opportunities
• Offering pricing support to client proposals / local business unit engagements
• Providing input to financial awareness training to chargeable staff
Financial control & compliance
• Works in close partnership with the Financial Control centre of excellence to encourage a culture of strong financial discipline and adoption of One Firm financial policies and procedures within the business unit.
• Reviews completion of controls work performed by Financial Control/Finance Executive and follows up any exceptions accordingly, identifying and escalating any significant issues.
• Ensuring local intelligence is gathered and communicated to the FC centre of excellence in line with agreed guidelines
• The ideal candidate should be numerate with strong analytical skills, and be adept with using both FINDER and GFS. They should also have advanced Excel skills.
• The role lends itself to someone with strong people skills, in particular good impact and influencing skills, as there is a very high emphasis on client service.
• They will also need to be a good communicator, both written and verbally, and be able to maintain high energy levels.
• They should also be a strong relationship builder with a reputation for integrity and evoking trust and openness in Partners, colleagues and team members alike.
• This role is suited to someone who can work autonomously as well as part of a team.
• An accounting qualification, either ACA, CIMA or ACCA is desirable.
