Job Description

The role of the Physician Associate, under the direction of the lead RMO Doctor, is to offer medical support to Consultants driving quality of care on the rehabilitation unit, from admission through to discharge. This will include a range of clinical and not clinical duties in the scope of practice as a Physician Associate.

  • This role is for a fixed term contract of 1 year to commence asap
  • We have X2 Part time positions available
  • Shifts are 12hour which will be rostered over a range of weekdays and weekends per month.
  • Salary £40000-£50000 per annum (full time equivalent) dependent upon skills and experience

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assess and examine patients on the Rehabilitation Unit, facilitating clinical care plans under the direction of the Lead RMO.
  • Order appropriate investigations, interpret investigation findings, form a list of differential diagnoses and recommend treatment accordingly, escalating appropriately.
  • Transcribe medication charts.
  • Review patients admitted to the Rehabilitation Unit and provide subsequent management of their care in conjunction with the medical team.
  • Maintain timely and appropriate documentation. Fully document all aspects of patient care, and complete all required paperwork.
  • Instruct and counsel patients & their relatives with regard to mental and physical health issues. Ensuring empathy and reassurance regarding assessment, care, treatment and recommendations.
  • Support and contribute to timely discharge planning including completing discharge summaries and support optimising bed capacity.
  • Work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team working in the provision of a rehabilitation programme to patients on a day-to-day basis.
  • Initiation of basic/ advanced life support in patients.
  • Be accountable at all times for ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients, in particular those who are at risk.
  • Perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, subject to training/experience. Including, but not exclusively:
- Venepuncture and blood culture sampling
- Cannulation
- Arterial gas sampling
- Injections
- Urethral catheterisation (male and female)
- Nasogastric tube insertion
- Urine dip stick

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Physician Associate, listed on the MVR with Neurology, stroke medicine or rehabilitation medicine experience.
  • Experience of managing medically unwell patients
  • Experience of Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) working
  • Significant post qualification experience
  • Firm awareness of the role, remit and scope of practice of a Physician Associate
  • Able to demonstrate significant clinical decision making skills and clinical acumen
