Medical Secretary to High Profile Private Plastic Surgeon, Central London
Job Summary
Location: Central London
Job type: Full time. This is a permanent post.
Starting salary: £25,000 - £29,000 per annum dependant on qualifications and experience, and subject to yearly review

The Practice
This is a busy, high end, private plastic surgery service in Central London, Wimbledon and Surrey, although you would be based in Central London. Your employer is a very busy, high profile private plastic surgeon specialising in breast, facial and abdominal surgery, including some cancer patients. He sees patients from the whole of the UK and internationally due to his expertise in this field. As his medical secretary, you will be part of a small team to include his Practice Manager and specialist plastic surgery nurse.
This is a rewarding and varied job with plenty of responsibility and provides excellent opportunity to develop your skills and portfolio. This position is central to and is pivotal in delivering an outstanding service to patients.
This is a strictly non-smoking environment.
The candidate
An enthusiastic, careful, thorough, well organised, well presented, mature and responsible individual who is keen to learn, and has excellent communication skills. Experience in a field where confidentiality is highly important. Will have very good general IT skills, as well as experience of Practice Manager or other medical IT systems. Ideally the candidate will have some experience of working in private practice and in the plastic surgery field, although this is not essential. The candidate will have excellent references.
Key duties and responsibilities
Administration
Management and coordination of rooms/theatre bookings and ordering medical supplies and breast implants. Responsibility for the medical secretarial duties, ensuring they are completed in a timely fashion. These include careful scanning of patient notes, producing/sending letters, taking phone calls, meeting and greeting patients, producing clinic lists, providing quotes and information sheets, managing the waiting list etc. Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
Accounts
Assist in invoicing and taking payments.
Website management
If interested, assist in collection of patient testimonials and media assets and assist in uploading this information on the surgeon's current and any future practice websites.
Patient Care
Provide high-standard non-clinical care/service to patients, make bookings, communicate with patients in a timely, professional and caring fashion and learn to coordinate patient care with various health insurers and care providers.
Practice Development
There is scope within the role to identify gaps in service provision and day to day work and to proactively effect changes to improve the business. This is a relatively new role and as such may be subject to change as the practice develops and grows. The right candidate will welcome the potential for change and the ability to use his/her own initiative.
Personal Development
Staff are encouraged to seek further education opportunities that will enhance skills and improve future prospects within the role. Appropriate courses will be funded by Paul Harris although will be completed in your own time.
