Innovation Strategy Manager, Infrastructure - Sussex, Worthing, BN111
In the first half of 2014, Southern Water combined their Asset Management and Capital delivery operations to create one Infrastructure Directorate, a new and exciting phase in the planned transformation in the business. This new operating model has been established to deliver significant efficiency savings. In addition, Infrastructure is developing an in-house Engineering & Technical capability to provide optimal whole-life cost solutions to satisfy investment needs and customer & business outcomes.
As part of its strategic delivery for the next five year business plan (AMP6) six sub-divisions have been created:
• Water Quality & Environmental Policy
• Strategic Planning
• Integrated Planning
• Investment Programme Management
• Engineering & Technical Solutions
As a result of this restructuring initiative, the company has created a substantial number of new roles and responsibilities. New roles have been designed to maximise capability, unlock engineering potential, attract and retain talent in the business, driving efficiencies and collaboration, thereby revitalising our future.
A key role within the Strategic Planning team is an Innovation Strategy Manager who will be accountable for the development of Company Innovation Policy and Strategy, successful delivery of the research and development technology roadmap and engagement with research organisations and partners. Key outputs from this leadership role will be the quantified benefits from the application of innovation and robust research and development programmes for the future.
• Innovation benchmarking and a co-ordinated approach to identifying opportunities
• Development, application and continued monitoring of benefits from innovation projects and their application.
• Liaison with universities, UKWIR and research partners
• Developing and leading a business wide innovation forum
• Development of research and development investment programmes
• Working with key internal stakeholders to ensure buy in to the company's innovation strategy
• Fostering best practice in research and development programme management
The post holder will have a degree in Science, engineering or other numerate subject and a post graduate qualification in science, engineering, water or environment is desirable.
You will have extensive experience in Innovation Strategy development and research and development programme management and delivery within a multidisciplinary Company, preferably in the water sector or other utilities. You will be experienced in the development of contract management for research organisations, Intellectual property rights and financial (including tax) treatment of research and development investment. You will also have a track record of driving an innovation culture throughout an organisation as well as managing internal and external stakeholders for successful delivery of research and development programmes.
This role will be based at Southern Water's Durrington offices, Worthing.
