The Employment Solutions team is part of PwC's rapidly growing employment advisory practice. ES provides specialist employment taxes and benefits advice as part of a multi-disciplined PwC team able to advise national and global clients on all aspects of the tax and national insurance treatment of cash or share based rewards, expenses and benefits. This position will focus on clients in the Financial Services sector. Main aspects of the role will include:
• To manage a portfolio of clients and client projects • To be able to write technical reports and accurately interpret employment tax regulations with best practice • To follow client acceptance processes and be responsible for managing internal risk management procedures • To prepare budgets and fee estimates • To report to senior managers on client work and activity • To manage a team of junior staff and support their personal and technical development • To represent the Employment Solutions practice at internal team meetings.
About the role
This specialist advice includes:
• Providing advice to large employers in respect of PAYE and NIC matters. • Undertaking site visits to clients to ensure that their systems and processes comply with employment tax regulations. • Producing detailed reports in respect of the above. • Assisting clients with HMRC enquiries, dispute resolution, investigations and liaising with the tax authorities on their behalf. • Providing advice on the tax/NIC treatment of non-cash benefits and incentives. • Undertaking large projects on behalf of, or in association with clients where HMRC requirements have to be met • Developing expenses and benefits policies and procedures on behalf of clients in accordance with their commercial needs and the current environment. • Due diligence supporting transactions e.g. acquisitions or mergers. • Design and implementation of salary sacrifice arrangements.
The team require a technically strong recruit who will:
• Project manage client engagements. • Attend client meetings • Have good communication skills, written and oral, and be able to write technical reports and accurately interpret employment tax regulations with best practice. • Manage a team of junior staff and to support their ongoing professional and technical development. • Liaise and build a network with colleagues who are responsible for other aspects of the clients' affairs, for example, corporate tax, auditors, employment lawyers. • Identify opportunities for the team or for other parts of the firm to provide further services to clients or other parties.
A very good working knowledge of both the practical and technical application of employment tax regulations (PAYE/NIC). The role will require that the candidates have most, if not all, of the following skills:
• A good understanding of the current law and practice in respect of employment tax and social security regulations in the UK; attained or currently studying for a formal qualification (ATT or CTA) • The ability to work successfully within a team and to deliver on large and diverse projects • Be dedicated to the delivery of high-quality client service. • The ability to negotiate with regulatory authorities • Strong project management and organisational skills
An appreciation of wider employee benefit/HR issues Experience of the treatment of equity compensation structures, benefits, contractors, and severance payments would also be desirable as would any previous experience of working with clients in the Financial Services sector.
