Health & Safety Manager - LondonReference OPS04709Location LondonService Operations (Internal Firm Services)Specialism Infrastructure & Procurement Industry Who we are looking forThe HS&E; team consist of three sections; Health and Safety who are responsible for maintain certification to OHSAS 18001, providing guidance to the business and managing H&S; process and reporting on performance against targets. The second section is the environmental team who is reasonable for maintain certification to ISO 14001 and the health and fitness team who deliver a number of H&S; processes and provide support in the area of employee health and wellbeing.

The firm's Health & Safety Management System is certified to the OHSAS 18001 standard and is subject to regular audits by the British Standards Institute. Certification to the standard is a pre-requisite for many clients. Failure to meet the required standard could jeopardise certification, which could result in reputational damage and loss of client incomeThe team are based in London but there are requirements for the H&S; team members to travel to our regional offices to conduct H&S; building audits as well as our external certification audits
The position is manager grade and you will be responsible for management of the H&S; officer and deliver of H&S; support to the business
The key skills, qualifications and experience are
• NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety management • Experience of managing and auditing to OHSAS 18001 standard • Previous experience of managing others
About the roleThe HS&E; is a small team but the work is varied. There is always a challenge and opportunities to share skills across the three sections. The team sit in with in I&P; which is the group responsible for the management of our offices and services to ensure the firm can conduct is business.
You will report directly to the Head of Health, Safety and Environment and your peers will be the Environmental Manager and the Health and Fitness Manager.
The main purpose of the job is to ensure consistent standards of health and safety management in line with OHSAS 18001 and ensuring continual improvement in the firm's health and safety management system. This covers legislative compliance for our 29 UK offices as well as procedures to ensure the health and safety of our 17,000 staff, visitors and third party contractors working in our offices
You will need to keep up to date on current, revised and future relevant health and safety legislation and recognised best practice; and assess the implications to the firm's health and safety management system and possible impact on operations and services. Make appropriate adjustments to the health, safety and environmental management system and associated systems, advising the appropriate stakeholders of the necessary measures to ensure compliance and best practice.
To develop and maintain appropriate procedures and practices to underpin the firm's policies and strategies and ensure that H&S; risks are identified and managed effectively. This involves conducting and/or supervising H&S; audits and risk assessments and maintaining appropriate records in line with the firms HS&E; management system and the OHSAS 18001 standard. To provided assurance to the business on its health and safety performance by providing regular reports on findings and progress against corrective actions
Ensure health and safety guidance for staff, office managers and contractors is maintained to ensure all parties receive appropriate information in an accurate and timely manner which will ensure the risks identified are managed. This can be in the form of training sessions, written documents and verbal briefings. Regularly review and improve the communications based on feedback sought from previous users and in line with the management system.
Contribute to the wider management of Health Safety & Environment (HS&E;) by:

• Deputising for the Head of HS&E; as necessary
• Leading or supporting projects or other initiatives
• The management of a health and safety assistant, setting objectives and work plans to support the H&S; function.
You must be a team player and work closely with other members of the HS&E; team to ensure that all H&S; risks are managed effectively. Our certification to the OHSAS 18001 standard is critical to the business (and is a pre-requisit for certain client pitches) and full adherence to the requirements of the standard is the responsibility of the job holder.
Internal clients you will work with are:
• Health and Safety officer - allocation of tasks and support to help achieve personal and departmental objectives
• Office management network - To provide support and advice on a daily basis, to ensure the training needs are addressed, and processes are adhered to. Attending meetings on request to present on H&S; matters.
• HS&E; team members - Daily contact with colleagues within the HS&E; team providing support advice and collaborative discussion on certain projects.
• I&P; Service Owners - Regularly work with the service owners to provide feedback and discuss soluions to issues arising in their respective areas.
• PwC Human Capital - Will be required on occasions to engage with HC and Occupational health to work together on health and safety issues arising from occupational health cases
• Procurement - Engagement with the firm's procurement team in relation to reviewing of tender submissions from our suppliers.
External clients you will work with are:
• Partnering Suppliers - on various health and safety issues to ensure co-operation between different parties to ensure the compliance with processes and legislation for PwC. To ensure that PwC H&S; management system requirements are clearly articulated in third party contracts and to ensure that these are fully adhered to in the planning and execution of works by contractors.
• Other Suppliers - to ensure the needs of PwC are met, for example in the area of first aid and fire warden training.
• Government Bodies - Report any accidents which are reportable under H&S; legislation to the relevant government body and as a result respond to any feedback or questions they have.
• Peer Groups - Developing network contacts with other organisations with the aim to learn and share, such as attending the office health and safety network meetings.
• Occupational Health - dialogue between the H&S; and OH is vital in addressing any issues raised and requires a joint approach to the solution
• British Standards Institute Auditors - To engage with BSi auditors during audits, representing the firm and providing information as requested as part of the audit.
The following skills are required for this role:
Essential skills:
• NEBOSH Diploma, or an appropriate degreequalification or equivalent. • Membership of the IOSH and several years' experience in H&S; management • Good people management skills • Good organiser • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing of reports • A team player • Able to deliver key message at different levels of grade
Desirable skills:
• Knowledge of different training techniques
