The Government Services Delivery Centre (GSDC) is located in our Belfast office and is designed to provide technical support to major projects delivering transformational change in a number of developing countries across the globe. The practice is growing rapidly and is projected to more than triple in size over the next three years, creating great opportunities to develop current and new skills.
As an Accounting Technician in an expanding team, you will be part of a team delivering a number of services to large scale consulting assignments for the International Development sector.
With professional qualifications (either in part or full) in accountancy (Accounting Technician / Chartered Accountant), you will ideally also have project management experience and / or qualifications.
You will have the capability and enthusiasm for supporting the growth of GSDC and see value in managing enduring business relationships. You will be determined and demonstrate drive and focus in supporting a range of life changing projects across the developing world.
You will be based in Belfast, but will also travel to London and beyond as an integral part of the wider International Development team. Therefore the role will involve travel and overnight stays away from home.

As part of a plan to grow GSDC over the next 3 years, we are currently appointing a balanced mix of experienced staff members that will form the core of our business going forward.
Our Accounting Technicians will get involved in many different tasks, supporting and working alongside our established project team. You will learn about all aspects of a project and will be given responsibility from day one. Example tasks you'd be involved in would include:
• accounting transaction processing • bank reconciliations • production of management accounts • production of performance reports • review and verification of monitoring reports • contractor management • procurement of suppliers • maintenance and configuration of computerised financial systems • preparation for and assistance during payment approvals and payment release sessions, including preparation of receipt and payment vouchers, summary reports and reconciliation reports • preparation of weekly finance reporting and maintaining risk registers • preparing financial information and reports for client and internal stakeholders • preparation of contract variation documents and change control forms. • Need to travel / overnight stays away from home (Yes - regularly)
The specific technical skills we are looking for include:
• Financial management; • Financial risk assessment and management; • Financial performance management; • Financial and management accounting.
Essential skills needed for the role:
• Recognised accounting technician qualification (either fully or part qualified); • Good project management skills; • Good written and oral communication skills; • Proven ability to produce quality work under pressure and to tight deadlines; and • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable skills sought for the role:
• Recent experience of working as part of a large team on multiple large scale, high profile assignments for key public sector clients, ideally in the international development arena; • Hold a current project management qualification (eg Prince 2); • Sector experience in international development / international aid; and • Language skills (in particular, French).
