Our Consulting Practice
Our consulting teams co-ordinate on a global basis, delivering bespoke solutions to our clients to meet the needs of ever changing financial, business, market and regulatory environments. We help organisations design and implement their business strategies by consulting with them to build effective organisations, reduce costs, manage risk and leverage talent.
Our Consulting practice delivers innovative business transformation projects across a wide range of industries, including:
• Financial Services (FS): Retail and Commercial Banking, Capital markets, Insurance (General and Life & Pensions) and Investment Management;
• Public & Private sector (P&PS;): Consumer and Industrial Products & Services, Pharmaceuticals, Government and Public Sector, Telecoms, Technology, Media & Entertainment and Energy & Utilities.
Finance Consulting
Our Finance Consulting group provides knowledge and experience to enable the Finance Department to respond to the changing needs and expectations of the business and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of finance operations whilst addressing the ever-increasing challenges of new regulatory requirements. We provide full lifecycle support to CFO's on Finance function redesign including advising on optimal organisation, process and systems design and providing end-to-end support for subsequent implementation.
We help clients with a diverse range of issues which include:
• Assessing and improving the role, organisation and effectiveness of finance functions;
• Delivering on a Shared Services or outsourcing agenda, including set-up, design and implementation
• Finance function strategy and design, including assessing and improving key finance processes;
• Implementing or optimising their investment in Enterprise Resource Planning;
• Working to implement and improve Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) processes;
PwCs Capital Markets Product Control (CMPC) team works with a broad range of clients to objectively assess these areas of activity and to implement sustainable improvement in the way that these functions are structured and operate, in order to optimise both effectiveness and efficiency.
Banking and Capital Market organisations are increasingly turning to PwC for advice on how to stabilise their Product Control and valuation operations and how to enhance existing price verification processes. This is in direct response to increased external focus on these areas of activity and an ever-increasing volume of regulatory requirements to implement.
Our ambition is for our team to expand significantly and we are looking for consultants with technical skills and experience in Product Control, who are able to supplement that expertise with an ability to consult across multiple stakeholders and deliver tangible, positive change.
Our wide variety of clients and projects means that whilst the role is primarily based in London, our work can take us to all parts of the UK and into continental Europe, sometimes at short notice and occasionally over lengthy periods of time.
About the Role
CMPC is a successful and fast growing team that is already establishing a strong reputation in the marketplace. We are looking for experienced hires to help us to expand and strengthen our practice, whilst advancing their own careers and helping our clients to meet the significant challenges that they face in the Product Control environment.
As a Senior Manager in our team, we would expect you to play a lead role in selling and delivering engagements to our target clients, in managing and developing the more junior members of our team and in developing thought leadership and publications. You will be working in teams, reporting to an engagement partner, helping clients in the following areas:
• Designing and implementing operating models for product control functions
• Developing and implementing enhanced independent price verification processes, for example in respect of illiquid financial instruments and in unobservable market conditions
• Addressing evolving regulatory requirements, for example in developing and implementing compliant valuation models
• Optimising validation and approval processes for price verification models
• Improving fair value levelling analysis and reporting practices
• Reviewing and enhancing upstream booking practices and their impact on P&L;
• Redesigning P&L; explain/reporting and Balance Sheet substantiation processes to improve their efficiency and to add further value to the business through actionable management information
• Performing structured trade reviews, including the reviewing the application of correct accounting treatments and booking practices
• Designing and implementing processes to support relevant accounting requirements (eg. counterparty credit/own credit adjustments)

• Need to travel/overnight stays away from home? (Yes - regularly)

We are looking for people with skills in Product Control. Candidates will be expected to show experience and expertise in a number of the areas set out below. Particular skills and experience we seek include:
• Degree Qualified
• Significantly relevant experience of working in a senior role within. or for, a product control, financial controlling or valuation function. Directly relevant experience includes,
• Daily P&L; analysis and reporting;
• Risk based P&L; explain and attribution methodologies;
• Balance Sheet substantiation;
• Month/Quarter/Year end valuation reporting processes;
• Interrogation and reconciliation of Trader Flash and Risk P&L;
• Knowledge of FOBO and FOFO processes; and
• Product experience in one or more of Rates, Credit, Equities, FX, Commodities, Structured Products.
• ACA, CIMA or CFA qualified
• General consulting skills in stakeholder management, project management, and problem solving
• An understanding of how to facilitate successful change within a multi-functional, global organisation
• An appreciation of underlying finance technologies in price verification and valuation
• Familiarity with contemporary themes and challenges in Finance and Product Control
• Strong commercial acumen and an ability to seek out opportunities through a thorough understanding of a client's business
• An ability to combine industry and technical skills to deliver practical and lasting solutions valued by clients
• The interpersonal skills to build strong, sustained relationships.
• A commitment to seeking out and acting upon feedback and learning opportunities
