PwC is looking for a strong, credible senior manager level candidate to join the Relationships & Networks (R&N;) team to lead the UK firm's Alumni programme and alumni team, as part of the broader Clients and Markets Development (CMD) function. The R&N; team is aligned to all parts of PwC, covering our lines of service, industry sectors and regions across the UK.
The role will require compelling leadership at Partner stakeholder level. It will require excellent influencing and communication skills in order to be credible and make an impact on senior management and all levels of the business, as well as the external alumni audience. A vital part of that will be driven by a thorough understanding of the strategic business drivers for PwC, the market and our clients.
Experience of leading teams, excellent project management and business development skills, and a proven track record of delivering effective relationship building activity will be essential.
The successful candidate will be confident in their ability to work alongside the programme partner sponsor and alumni champion network, and unafraid to challenge where needed. They will set clear direction for the alumni team, inspiring and coaching them to deliver a high-impact, energised programme aligned to the wider firm strategy.
The R&N; team is responsible for driving integrated activity and opportunities for building relationships. Our vision is to develop a culture and framework to support our people at all levels in building their networks, both internally and externally with clients.
R&N; includes the FTSE 350 Non-Executive Director Programme, Alumni, Senior Networking Programme, Next Generation and firmwide memberships.
CMD is a centralised support function and covers all aspects of professional services marketing, sales support and business development. The prime area of focus for the function is to support the development and implementation of the firm's market strategy and in particular to deliver:
• Revenue growth
• Enhanced relationships and networks
• A distinctive brand experience
The PwC strategy is designed to provide a sharper focus on market issues in order to prioritise growth opportunities and align our resources to deliver them. Our plan is to obtain transformational growth of our consulting market share and to extend our lead in our core businesses of audit, tax, business recovery services and transactions.
About the role
This role will lead and develop the firm's highly visible UK alumni programme and team, as well as supporting the shaping and implementation of the broader R&N; strategy. The jobholder will report to the Head of R&N; and will have exposure to senior partners in the UK firm.
In this role, the successful candidate:
• Leads the UK Alumni programme, taking responsibility for and evolving a results-driven strategy aligned to firmwide priorities.
• Is responsible and accountable for developing reporting, KPIs and strategic segmentation of alumni to keep the programme commercial and relevant.
• Educates the whole firm about the value of the programme, confidently articulating its potential as a powerful business development tool.
• Leads a firmwide internal alumni champion network, upskilling champions to be first-rate ambassadors.
• Engenders local ownership of alumni and improves the firm's culture around alumni management in a sustainable, integrated way.
• Is well connected in the business and CMD to promote internal awareness and keep alumni front of mind, leading the firm to use this as a key channel to market.
• Keeps up with constantly changing technology to meet alumni needs, innovating whilst also using existing technology to integrate and enhance the programme.
• Understands how to engage alumni through the firm's service offerings, thought leadership and user-friendly technology, to increase external programme sign-up.
• Develops priority alumni relationships and services whilst providing for the wider alumni network.
• Oversees a cost effective and creative events programme with clear business development strategies demonstrating return on investment.
• Provides expert advice to clients looking to develop their own alumni programmes.
• Works with the former partner programme aligning programme strategies.
• Builds an external network to source knowledge and best practice from other alumni programmes.
• Shows strong leadership skills to establish a best-in-class alumni team providing a high quality service, with individual objectives aligned to supporting the business strategy.
Essential skills needed for the role:
• Excellent influencing and powerful communication skills in order to develop credibility quickly and make an impact on senior management to ensure buy-in.
• Graduate calibre with a proven track record in project management with a strong business development bias.
• Strong relationship skills and ability to form networks with partners, staff and alumni.
• Make key decisions under pressure whilst negotiating and influencing.
• Able to manage difficult conversations in a professional and confident manner.
• An expert understanding of client relationship management.
• The ability to implement both strategic and tactical initiatives.
• Creative and innovative approach.
• A sound business understanding as well as being commercially aware.
• Strong people management and development skills with experience of managing teams
• Proactive with a positive 'can do' approach.
• Self-starter able to work effectively as part of a team.
