About the role
Whilst an exciting opportunity, it is without question, the role will be for someone who is looking for and able to deal with a challenge.
The role will be based in the Strategic Procurement and Supplier Relations Service. This is a Service which has been subject to a significant amount of change during the last 4 years and is continuing through a transition towards better engagement across the business, enabling sound and robust commercial outcomes.
In the role you would bring experience and knowledge to support this transitional journey positively influencing and engaging both with colleagues in the Service as well as across the wider business and helping to deliver against our wider improvement plan for the Service.
With annual third party spend in the region of £460m and three Category areas, by helping support and build a strong effective and engaged service, your role will support the colleagues in the Council's People Directorate. You will be leading on category change with our commissioner's in Adults, Children's Education and Public Health Service, a Directorate that consistently has to deliver quality services to some of the most vulnerable in our community against a background of financial and resource limitations.
You will be responsible for professionally leading and managing the Category, providing the strong engagement with key stakeholders both within and outside of the Council and underpinned by sound commercial practice. This will be a pivotal role in supporting the Council's wider objectives including securing robust, value for money savings and efficiencies from our third party spend.
Through your work within the Category area you will ensure statutory and regulatory compliance whilst enabling procurement as a function to deliver added value contributions against strategic objectives of the Council including Social Value.
You should have excellent leadership, communications and engagement skills with the ability to positively influence and negotiate successful outcomes within a commercial setting. You will be well able to provide practical guidance, advice and support for your related category area to key stakeholders and Members on complex technical and legislative issues relating to procurement and associated commercial matters will be essential.
Building and maintaining positive professional relationships with key stakeholders will be essential, plus you would be able to add constructive challenge where appropriate but critically in doing so be able to enable, support and influence successful solutions.
