Voice Solutions Engineer



  • Be accountable for the selected strategy, architecture, products and standards required to enable the company businesses to take advantage of IP Telephony (IPT) infrastructure to maximise revenue, minimise costs and provide outstanding industry differentiating services to clients
  • Engage with other CATE streams, Architecture forums and the company businesses to develop voice solutions to meet current and future operational needs in accordance with the company certification standards and procedures
  • Proactively analyse technology costs/benefits, develop proposals to reduce operational cost and enhance services
  • Publish and maintain strategic documentation that clearly defines the strategic direction and architectural vision for this technology domain within the company. Provide leadership in defining a technology domain roadmap
  • Certify the selected technologies/products for deployment in the company in accordance with CATE engineering and security policies/processes
  • Provide lead engineering excellence and skills throughout project phases (requirements gathering, design, procurement, implementation and hand-over to operations) of a given project while complying with CATE standard engineering practices and project management processes
  • Provide occasional third level support and working closely with the Voice and Network Operations teams to resolve complex IPT issues when required
  • Fully comply with all security policies, engineering standards, project management and purchasing processes
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) level knowledge of Cisco IP Telephony architecture and components OR Avaya IP Telephony architecture and components OR Session Border Controllers (SBCs)
  • SME level knowledge of VoIP standards (SIP, H.323, etc.)
  • SME level knowledge of voice standards (FXO/FXS, Q.921/Q.931, etc.)
  • Experience of having responsibility for delivering complex IPT solutions
  • Practical experience of solution deployments involving contact center solutions including Cisco ICM, Avaya ACD and IVR, Aspect Dialers
  • Good working knowledge of IP addressing and Access Control Lists
  • Experience in call traffic sizing and dimensioning including queuing theory, erlang traffic calculation
  • Understanding of fire wall technologies
  • Ability to manage partners and vendors
  • Time management and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in a matrix reporting environment
  • Preferably educated to undergraduate degree level, or equivalent, in an Engineering based discipline (ElectricalElectronics or Computer Engineering), or other appropriate discipline (Finance/Business)
  • CCNP, CCIP, CCVP or CCIE or equivalent experience at these levels
  • Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches is a plus
  • IPC trading floor system knowledge a plus
  • Windows administration and UNIX shell knowledge a plus
