As of May 2, 2013, Invensys Rail became part of Siemens' Rail Automation Business Unit in the Mobility and Logistics Division within the Infrastructure & Cities Sector.
Siemens provides integrated mobility solutions and already has a significant, established rail automation business with sales of €1.4 billion, employing around 6,500 employees. Invensys Rail has been integrated into this unit headquartered in Berlin, Germany. Siemens and Invensys Rail managers form the new management team, combining the regional strengths of both organizations for the benefit of both their customers and employees.
Modern train control systems rely upon many data driven systems to be integrated into one state of the art system. The Engineering Technician - Test will ensure we have Engineers who can maintain the highest technical standards in all aspects of testing work and will be in direct support of the delivery of a number of Siemens' Train Control projects. This will primarily be the testing of trackside and control centre equipment. They will also be involved in project planning activities and the resolution of testing issues and validation activities
What are my responsibilities?
• You will be an active test engineer on a three year develepment programme that will allow you to achieve IRSE licence 1.3.170 Signalling Functional Tester licence. You will receive on and off-the-job training with regular reviews carried out by qualified and competent Senior Engineering staff and benefit from an established and accredited engineering development programme
• By the end of the first year you will be a Signalling Works Test (SWTH) Module 5 Test Assistant with the associated licence (1.3.150 Test Assistant) and will be ready for Mod 3C/4 Verification Tester Training. You will be undertaking tests under direction on signalling components and equipment in accordance with the test specifications and plans
• By the end of year two you will have received your SWTH Mod 3C/4 competence certificate and have achieved IRSE licence 1.3.155X Signalling Verification Tester - Operational Environment. You will be responsible for undertaking tests on signalling components and equipment in accordance with the test specifications and plans (typically in preparation for Functional Testing) in the operational railway environment. The Verification Tester is given the test plan for the work to be completed, rather than being required to develop it
• By the end of year three you will have attained Mod3B/4 Functional Tester competence and associated IRSE licence 1.3.170 - Signalling Functional Tester. You will be undertaking the testing and inspection activities of signalling systems and equipment to provide suitable and sufficient evidence to confirm that they comply with the design specification, meet the requirements appropriate to the application and are fit for entry into service
• By taking part in and contributing to live projects you will achieve the Competence in outline and detailed Signalling design, with responsibility for the timeliness and the quality performance of allocated project activities. You will also help generate and produce data test regimes and participate in the testing and validation of our projects
• During the programme you will attend and successfully complete all training courses on the training programme to help build your experience. You will complete a workplace log book which will allow you to work towards your IRSE licences
• All activities will be carried out ensuring safe systems are maintained in line with current operating procedures and conforming to current Health and Safety at Work Act and associated Railway Legislation and company codes of conduct
What do I need to qualify for this job?
• NVQ Level 3/4 ONC/HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic/Computing/IT or similar knowledge and experience (essential)
• Good communications and computer skills (essential)
• Flexibility and an ability and willingness to learn (essential)
• Computer literate (essential)
• A willingness to work on site and undertake shift work, including bank holidays and weekends - eligibility for extra bonus during Christmas working (essential)
• Interest/knowledge of railways, transport or safety critical systems
• Able to communicate and work effectively within a dynamic team environment
• Experience of working in a safety focussed environment and industry
