to participate on roster for a temporary assistance


The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country. In more than five decades, the agency has helped people restart their lives. Today, a staff of around 6,650 people in more than 110 countries continues to help 34.4 million people.


The Global Service Centre (GSC) is the administrative backbone of UNHCR and hosts: Financial Control, Personnel Administration and Payroll, Recruitment & Posting, Talent Management, Logistics, Asset and Supply Management and the Global Learning Centre. A Legal Officer and a team of telecom and informatics specialists provide support to the GSC in addition to performing global functions, while the day-to-day running of the Centre is supported by a small Management Unit.  The GSC currently accommodates 340 staff members from around 50 nationalities. Locally recruited staff are mostly young (33 is the average), hold a University degree, have a high degree of comfort with new technologies, and are proficient in English. Several speak a second or third foreign language.  The GSC is located in the 13th district of Budapest in a modern office building.



The GSC is looking for qualified candidates who are willing to be enlisted on a roster for potential temporary assistance (TA) appointment in the course of 2015 in following functional areas:

  • Administration,
  • Personnel administration, payroll, recruitment,
  • Financial administration, accountancy,
  • Procurement, logistics, assets, fleet management,
  • Staff development,

Minimum qualifications/requirements:

  • Secondary education with post-secondary training/certificate relevant to the functional areas.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience,
  • Excellent computer skills, in particular in MS Office applications,
  • Fluency in English.

Desired requirements:

  • Knowledge of other UN languages, preferably French, is considered as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of UN system.

Candidates selected for the roster may be offered a temporary appointment of a length of 3-12 months at the Center in the General Service category.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a functional test and if successful for a preliminary interview. Only short-listed candidates will be notified.

UNHCR does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process (application, interview meeting, processing, training or any other fees).
