Working as part of a close knit team each Solutions Architect has an area of specialism and a wide knowledge of our industry. Solutions Architects work closely with our Business Development team to establish relationships with existing and potential customers, allowing us to truly understand what our customers need. They work with the various Centres of Competence, technology teams and subject matter experts across the wider Siemens business to develop solutions that meet these needs and then with bid teams to develop proposals that deliver commercially viable, highly customer focused bids.
The Solutions Architect role is a high profile one, with involvement in a wide range of business development activities including attendance and presenting papers at conferences and seminars, attending exhibitions and playing an active role in industry events. This role provides the opportunity to travel both in the UK and overseas, ensuring an international flavour to your knowledge base and, over time, establish a rounded career in a global railway industry.
What are my responsibilites?
• Capable of initiating and managing detailed technical analysis of extensive, multi-layered systems
• Will work closely with colleagues in the Bids & Tendering team, project groups, the Lines of Business and head of technology throughout the Invensys Rail business, to ensure that products and projects meet our customers' needs now, and in the future
• Performs evaluation of Engineering issues and constraints, defining cross Engineering, and Sub-contract support needed to provide solutions to these major Engineering challenges
• Responsible for the mobilisation and control of cross-disciplinary teams to facilitate solutions
• Determines most appropriate technical, product and commercial solutions within the given geographical and technical environment
• Plans, monitors and controls a programme of activity that results in resolution of Engineering issues that may delay Project progress and delivery
• Ensure innovation and value engineering is applied to all proposals
• A key player within the Business Development organisation, comfortable to represent the Company at seminars, conferences and exhibitions, and to work closely with the Business Development team to deliver appropriate marketing information
• Will own technical solutions across the whole lifecycle from tendering through into project delivery
What do I need to qualify for this job?
• Knowledge and/or experience relating to train carried systems, in particular train control systems & in-cab signalling systems (ETCS / CBTC) (essential)
• Ability to deliver designs for integration of safety critical systems into existing environments (essential)
• A broad base of Engineering skills, experiences, knowledge and competencies covering the full engineering lifecycle, together with the requisite personal characteristics, to take responsibility for leading cross disciplinary Engineering activity in complex, innovative and commercially challenging environments (essential)
• Previous experience in Systems Engineering, Project Engineering and Design of safety critical or safety related real-time systems, test and installation environments (essential)
• Must be willing to fill gaps in own knowledge and experience through taking a pro-active approach to learning, and seeking information from within and outside the company (essential)
• Demonstrates customer focus in all work carried out (essential)
• Able to understand and take account of the 'big picture' presented by the politics and sensitivities that surround the rail industry (essential)
• Experience of working to industry quality and safety standards (essential)
• Strong and effective communicator at all levels within the Business and in front of new and existing customers (essential)
• Demonstrates innovative and creative thinking when performing problem solving initiatives (essential)
