Senior Control Systems Engineer - Sheffield

The Senior Control Systems Engineer will enhance the existing control system department in order to deliver best in class designs and operational excellence to our clients. Working collaboratively with clients to meet project specifications is the key focus for all design and contract management activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Understanding of customer specifications and individual project control system requirements in order to be able to identify/clarify any contract scope of supply issues
Where variations to contract are identified, provide technical and commercial justifications for the changes to the Project Manager
Ensure that control system designs achieve customer's project specifications.
Attend monthly project review with the Controls Director/Manager, review performance of individual projects.
Co-ordinate with other SCX Special Projects departments as necessary
Raise purchase orders on approved suppliers considering quality and value.
Working to the Project Program ensure milestones for the control system design and supply elements of the contract are achieved
Follow SCX Special Projects QA procedures to ensure all control system works is designed and supplied to the requisite technical quality standards
Establish and maintain direct lines of communication with the client as necessary to discuss/clarify control system requirements and confirm any details in the specification.
Produce Basis of Design Specifications (BoD) for review with the Controls Dept Manager and contract Project Manager and/or client for comment/approval before the electrical design commences.
Produce a Functional Design Specification (FDS) for the contract and keep updated as the control system design develops such that the FDS can be used as a design verification document
Produce a Software Design Specification (SDS) for the contract, if required, and keep updated as the control system design develops such that the SDS can be used as a design verification document
Produce Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Test documentation
Produce electrical schematic drawings for the control system using AutoCAD drawing packages.
Produce control panel General Arrangement drawings using AutoCAD drawing packages.
Produce control system PLC/SCADA/HMI software as required for the project.
Check and approve control system drawings, software and design documents produced by other SCX Electrical Design Engineers and/or subcontractors, in accordance with SCX QMS.
Oversee and manage the electrical installation works for those contracts that are built and tested at Barrow Road Assembly Facility
Carry out control system testing, commissioning and customer Factory Acceptance Testing at Barrow Road Assembly Facility and on client sites
Health & Safety objectives must be satisfied at all times whether activities are taking place in the office, workshop or on site. Specific standards include HSAWA 1974, LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, CE Marking Directive 1998, and CDM Regs. 2007, Manual Handling Regs. 1992, etc. Note this list is not exhaustive - see quality procedures for complete list. Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Health & Safety Plan documentation must be compiled with the appropriate input and issued to the relevant people as necessary.

Qualifications and experience required:


Degree qualified in a relevant technical/engineering discipline
Ability to generate electrical schematic drawings (preferably using AutoCad Electrical package
Knowledge of leading PLC/HMI suppliers (e.g. from Siemens, Rockwell, Group Schneider)
A full UK drivers licence is essential for this position as travelling between offices/sites may be required.
Up to date knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation including CDM Regulations
