Job Category: Research & DevelopmentSiemens Rail Automation require an experienced Safety Assurance Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team who are responsible for the engineering safety assurance for a portfolio of new and existing mainline and mass transit railway projects. The role requires the application of safety engineering analysis techniques and standards to complex turnkey rail projects, and includes planning of safety activities, the derivation of safety requirements, hazard analysis and management, gathering safety assurance evidence, producing safety case arguments and liaising with key stakeholders.
What are my responsibilities?
• Developing strategies to ensure our products, systems and applications are safe and reliable
• Identifying hazards, hazard analysis and management, and assessing safety risk
• Defining and analysing safety and reliability requirements
• Carrying out safety and reliability analysis of designs
• Participating with the functional and safety validation of Siemens Rail Automation Products and Systems
• Putting together safety arguments and safety cases to gain railway authority approval
• Contributing to the improvement of our development processes
• To monitor the system design and implementation and produce Engineering Safety and RAM analysis material and also product level safety case material that provides sufficient evidence to all concerned such that the developments and changes to Schemes, Configurations, Systems and Products undertaken by Siemens Rail Automation meet their System Safety requirements throughout the whole lifetime of that development or change
• To implement a common and auditable approach in the identification of Safety and RAM requirements, their implementation, and the demonstration of compliance with those requirements
• To comply with current best practice, including relevant legislation, standards (e.g. CENELEC 50126/50128/50129, the Common Safety Method (CSM), and IEC 61508 etc.) and guidelines
• Ensure that they understand the risk issues associated with their work and the company's policy on safety
• Ensure that they keep up to date with risk assessment and risk management issues through continuing professional development
• Effectively communicate relevant information on risk issues to those who need to know (e.g. managers, project leaders, health, safety and environment engineers and colleagues)
• To liaise with the client and external Independent Safety Assessors
What do I need to qualify for this job?
• HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Science or related discipline (essential)
• Understanding and application experience of safety management and safety engineering processes such as safety planning, hazard analysis, safety requirements capture and safety case development (essential)
• Experience or knowledge of producing some or all of the following: System FTA, Common Cause Failure Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA), Operation and Support Hazard Analysis (OSHA), System Hazard Logs, System Hazard Analysis Reports, Product Safety Cases (essential)
• Understanding and application experience of verification and validation techniques
• Experience with CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 and IEC 61508 standards
• Experience of the application of the EU Common Safety Method (CSM) on Risk Evaluation and Assessment
• Experience in safety-critical programmable and electronic systems
• Experience within the railway signalling industry and associated railway applications
• Experience of DOORS Requirements Management Databases
• Experience of configuration management methods/tools - e.g. Synergy
• Competence in the use of Microsoft Office packages (WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT etc)
