Risk Management Internship Program


The cornerstone of Morgan Stanley's risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects Morgan Stanley's capital base and franchise. Risk Management protects the Firm from exposure to losses resulting from defaults by our lending and trading counterparties.

Program Content:

Reporting area:

Supporting Middle Office and Risk Reporting teams in their tasks and daily work within the Risk Management Department, namely:

  • Supporting in producing exploratory data analysis on risk data
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining daily, weekly and monthly risk reports 
  • Maintaining records in accordance with regulatory requirements 
  • Helping in monitoring report generation processes and working with IT to solve issues
  • Ensuring risk reporting systems contain timely and accurate information

Quantitative area:

Supporting Credit Methodology, Model Review, Capital and Market Risk Analytics teams in their tasks and daily work within the Risk Management Department, namely:

  • Assisting in analyzing, maintaining, developing, validating and reviewing quantitative pricing, risk, and capital calculation models
  • Taking part in bank stress testing and reporting, Basel Accords capital calculations
  • Conducting on-demand analysis of mathematical models, their inputs, and their behavior
  • Processing statistical data for various purposes

Credit Research area:

Supporting Corporates, Financial Institutions and Funds teams in their tasks and daily work within the Risk Management Department, namely:

  • Assisting in conducting credit analyses for the Firm's counterparties (Corporates, Banks, Insurance Companies, Investment and Pension Funds) 
  • Performing annual reviews of the approved ratings
  • Using the Firm’s ratings methodologies, determining an appropriate rating for approval 
  • Maintaining records in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Completing Credit Department’s on-demand tasks within Financial Institutions, Corporate and Funds teams

Skills Required:

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including WORD, EXCEL applications; SQL and VBA knowledge 
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills 
  • Ongoing studies or recently graduation from Bachelor's or Master’s degree preferably in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics or business
  • Fluency in English 
  • Fluency in a 3rd language and international experience is an advantage
