The UK 's largest water company, Thames Water, has appointed CH2M HILL, in association with Halcrow, as Programme Manager for the proposed London Tideway Tunnels and Project Manager for the Lee Tunnel.
Two major new sewer tunnels are planned to substantially reduce the volume of untreated sewage overflowing from London 's Victorian sewers - currently some 32 million cubic metres each year, enough to fill the O2 Arena almost 15 times. Required to ensure the UK complies with Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive the tunnels will make the River Thames and its tributary the River Lee cleaner and healthier for wildlife and for people.
The Thames Tunnel, stretching some 32km (20 miles) under the river through the heart of London from the west of the city over to Beckton in the east, will intercept the sewage from the 34 most polluting "Combined Sewer Overflows" (CSOs), built into the existing system, before it enters the river. Construction is due to commence in 2012 and is expected to take approximately eight years to complete.
The Lee Tunnel stretching seven kilometres (four miles) from across east London from Stratford to Beckton will stop sewage discharges to the River Lee from a CSO at Abbey Mills. This tunnel will capture over half of the total volume of sewer discharges that currently make their way into the Thames . Construction is expected to be complete by 2014.
Together the Lee and Thames Tunnels will be one of the most ambitious, challenging engineering feats ever undertaken in modern-day London . They will have a combined capacity of 1.6 million cubic metres.
The deepest tunnels ever constructed in the capital (up to 75m beneath ground level), the diameter of both the tunnels will be wider than three London buses placed side by side.
Description and Desired Qualifications
CH2M Hill are looking to recruit a Risk Engineer to work on the high profile Thames Tideway Tunnel project in Paddington. The successful candidate will support the management of risk within the project, through analysing data to identify & evaluate risk.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES & TASKS
•Manage project risk through the facilitation of risk workshops at all levels from Strategic Level to Function/task level.
•Ensure that the ARM risk database is maintained through updating records to ensure quality & accuracy of data
•Support the production of detailed project risk reports as required within the Thames Tunnel reporting cycle
•Support continuous improvement of risk management activities within the project team, through identifying and recommending improvements for implementing.
•Support the Senior Risk Engineer and the Risk and Change Control Manager in ensuring that all project team members comply with the Risk and Change Management Strategy, Plans and Procedures and other risk specific requirements for their assigned scope of work
•Administer systems that provide the interface between engineers, project managers, planners and cost engineers.
•Comply with risk management plans and procedures, to maintain standards.
•Carry out Risk Mitigation Planning and Control activities, to support project controls
•Conduct reviews & report on risk as per plans to support project controls
•Evaluate Cost and Schedule Uncertainty to determine risk
•Assume a leading role in the evaluation of project risks, through risk workshops
•Maintain a high standard of risk management data within ARM
•Assists in the production of detailed project and programme risk reports for monthly reporting (as an integrated part of the Project Controls systems).
•Assist in the continuous improvement of procedures as necessary to ensure that risk management is embedded within the project going forwards.
•Ensure project team members comply with risk management policy, plan and procedures and other risk-specific requirements for their assigned scope of work.
•Administer the risk management system interfacing with engineers, project managers, schedulers and cost engineers as appropriate.
Degree or equivalent qualification in risk management or relevant Geotechnical/Engineering discipline
Skills and experience:
•Demonstrated Experience of delivering high standard risk management function with construction or engineering industry
•Experience in delivery and communication of risk management processes and procedures
•Sound knowledge of Change Management Processes and procedures
•Experience in using Oracle Risk Analysis risk management tools
•Experience in producing detailed programme and project level risk and change management reports to tight deadlines
•Able to articulate schedule risk data to non specialist audiences
•Comfortable in producing high quality presentations and training sessions
Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
