Job Category: EngineeringReporting to the Senior Project Engineer, the Project Engineer will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Project Engineering element of a contract. The Project Engineer will be responsible and accountable for the project engineering submissions, ensuring that the project scope of requirement is understood and compliance to delivery, this will also be defined in terms of cost, time and resource.
What are my responsibilites?
• Verify the client requirements through compliance to standards for projects
• Deliver the technical solution for the projects in terms of Work Packages and its Management
• Implement and execute the migration strategy for the project
• Produce and verify the engineering cost build-up in association with the Project Manager
• Produce and verify project schedules in association with the Project Manager
• Implement the engineering resource loading required to deliver the project
• Identify and develop the continual improvement of engineering processes
• Implementation of company engineering standards as determined by the Technical directorate
• Providing peer support and mentorship to Engineers to balance the demands of engineering excellence and project delivery
• Maintaining effective communication channels including regular briefings on Company, Engineering and Project specific matters
What do I need to qualify for this job?
• Hold a relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience in the industry (essential)
• Membership of an industry based professional body(s) (essential)
• Relevant IRSE Licence desirable and 1.2.230 Project Engineer preferred (essential)
• Professional within the signalling industry will have relevant experience of engineering implementation on large signalling schemes in the UK on the following areas (essential):
- Commercially aware - able to forecast and manage resource utilisation and costs
- Safety culture aware - to be able to influence and develop an existing safety culture to latest generation thinking and practice
- Supportive of a consistent companywide approach to continuous improvement
- A broad base of Engineering skills, experiences, knowledge and competencies covering the full engineering lifecycle, together with the requisite personal characteristics, to assist with facilitating cross disciplinary Engineering activity in complex, innovative and commercially challenging environments
- Previous experience in Systems Engineering, Project Engineering and Design of safety critical or safety related real-time systems, test and installation environments
- Must be willing to fill gaps in own knowledge and experience through taking a pro-active approach to learning, and seeking information from within and outside the company
- Demonstrates customer focus in all work carried out
- Effective communicator at all levels within the Business - and in front of new and existing customers - both internal and external
- Demonstrates innovative and creative thinking when performing problem solving initiatives
- Highly motivated, dependable and self-reliant, works well. Under the pressure of deadlines
- Demonstrates an ability to work in an environment where calculated risk taking is necessary
- Monitor the progress of work activity and ensure that the development, design, construction, testing and financial targets are met and implement remedial action where required
- Maintain a continuous communication with Sponsors, Projects Managers and functions in all areas requiring an interface in the development and implementation of projects to ensure a uniformity of purpose and common targets
- Drawing to the attention of the PM any scope deviation, growth or technical change requested by the customers personnel that has not been passed through the PM
- Review the engineering design and standards process to identify any gaps or shortcomings in delivery of the project
- Establish processes and the necessary systems infrastructure to support the project
- Devise and promote activity in support of improved integration of multi-disciplinary engineering activities
- Contribute to technical threat and risk reviews
- Configuration Management of all Technical Document in accordance with Company Management System.
- Ensuring that the work is progressed in a verifiable and reportable manner
- Duties carried out conforming to current Health and Safety at Work Act and associated Railway Legislation and company codes of conduct
- Ensure safe systems are maintained in line with current operating procedures
