Mechanical Maintenance Technicians - Lancashire, Heysham, LA3 2XH

EDF Energy's Generation business operates eight nuclear power stations in the UK with a combined capacity of almost 9,000 megawatts providing around a sixth of the UK's electricity needs - electricity that is vital to the UK economy. Safety is our number one priority, and we pride ourselves in operating our fleet safely and reliably. In a typical year, our power stations avoid the emission of over 30 million tonnes of CO2. That's equivalent of removing over half of the passenger cars from the UK's roads. The Upstream division of Generation includes the operation of Cottam and West Burtom coal power stations, the supply chain for coal and biomass, renewables assets, generation forecasting and hedging.

Maintenance of Heavy and light mechanical plant associated with a nuclear power station. This is to include pump and valve maintenance. You will be involved in both planned, routine, defect and breakdown maintenance and carry out modifications and installation of new or replacement equipment. Safety is a key priority throughout the whole of the organisation and as such you will be required to work to the highest standards.

Essential for these posts is an ability to work at heights, unimpaired vision (with spectacles), unimpaired co-ordination and balance and potentially working in confined spaces. You will be required to enter the Reactor Building and work in contaminated areas.Safety is EDF Energy's number 1 priority:we always act in a safe, responsible manner. Whilst Safety is not a behavioural competence, it must underpin everything we do.
Maintenance Technicians are highly motivated Nuclear professionals focused on delivering high levels of plant availability through timely value added maintenance of the plant. Our key responsibilities are -
1. To carry out maintenance activities safely, in accordance with with procedures.
2. To complete maintenance records in a timely manner.
3. To ensure maintenance activities do not adversely affect the environment.
4. To provide feedback to improve the effectiveness of the maintenance programme.
5. To report safety, environmental and plant issues in a timely manner.
6. To actively participate in personal performance appraisals and take ownership of delivering personal development plans.

As a minimum, applicants will hold a recognised apprenticeship/NVQ level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanical maintenance discipline. The terms and conditions for this role are covered by the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement and associated competence progression scheme. The competence framework for this role is detailed in the maintenance technician competence model. The starting salary for this appointment will be within this range dependent on the successful candidate's existing, competence, experience and qualification. Further progression within this range will be subject to the arrangements set out in the competence progression manual of the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.
Successful candidates may be required to join the company emergency scheme which will require the wearing of breathing apparatus during training and emergency exercises.
