Purpose of role: To research and design a commercial range of merchandise in order to maximise sales and profitability and to ensure the timely and correct handover dates of products.

Trend and Research - Concerning all relevant avenues of industry input:

· Using trend books/websites/magazines and trade fair to demonstrate trends relevant to the market.
· Undertake regular competition shopping specific to needs of the business
· Methodically research colour/trend direction and shape
· Prepare trend information 'in looks' and also commodity shape libraries
· Prepare and present trend on a six weekly basis
· Ensure prompt delivery of merchandise and correct phasing of intake to meet sales
· Monitor, report and react to product sales performance
· Continually monitor critical path

Direction and weighting - recommend direction, awaiting and timing of key styles, colour and overall trend:

· Through trend research and range content communicate timing of trends for the season
· Recommend trend direction on a regular basis
· Re-assess on a eight week basis seasonal trends and present quick response messages visually
· Weight colour pallets by category
· Weight key must have's by category
· Weight fabrics by importance by category

Range design - commercially design the range planned and required:

· Maintain and follow critical path dates
· Design pre-agreed range
· Responsible for clear communication of fabric, colour reference and block or measurement needs on design specs
· Continually review the range from design to sample stage with buying

Design spec and communication - create relevant and clear garment specifications to maintain productive sampling process:

· Maintain clear verbal and visual communication of the range at all times
· Visually communicate via photo or drawing to suppliers
· Maintain continually the standard of Primark's design specs
· Ensure design changes are documented
· Manage the correct use of measurements and block references

People - Building relationships with buying colleagues:

· Optimise morale through effective communication and promote a positive work environment
· Working in unison with buying
· Develop own capability by using all available Buying resources to learn and achieve targets
· Take responsibility for achievement of personal goals
· Adhere to company policies and administration procedures

Evaluation process - continually evaluate customer profile and range:

· Regular visits to a Primark Store and relevant competition
· Redefine where relevant the customer profile
· Evaluate the sample execution from designs given
