                                        Job Description

 

Post Title:     Senior Child Care Officer

 

Purpose of Post:

 

To work under the direction of the Proprietors and Assistant managers. To support the aims and objectives of the nursery and assist the Proprietors and Assistant Managers in the management of health and safety, staff discipline and the provision of a high standard of child-care and education. To direct and support staff as agreed by the Proprietors and Assistant Managers, ensuring that all staff members for whom the post holder is responsible for directing contribute to the creation of a warm, friendly and stimulating environment in which children attending the nursery can develop emotionally, socially, physically and educationally through individual attention and group activities.

4.     Management of building and equipment.

5.   Associated duties.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

 

1.         Care of Children.

 

1.1       Provide a high standard of care ensuring that this is carried out at all time in a safe environment.

 

1.2       Oversee and participate in the creation and implementation of a high quality early years curriculum that promotes child development and learning.

 

1.3       Ensure that the service is sensitive to the needs of children from different cultural backgrounds.

 

1.4       Facilitate the provision of good quality stimulating play and care for all children to promote their social, physical and intellectual development.

 

1.5      To ensure that the service is sensitive to children with identified special needs.

 

1.6      To ensure compliance with local area child protection policies and procedures.

 

1.7       Ensure the provision of a healthy balanced diet and promote understanding of healthy living.

 

2.         Consultation and liaison with parents.

           

2.1      Ensure effective communication with parents in order to meet the needs of   individual children.

 

2.2       Participate in parent consultation events.

 

2.3       Participate in the investigation and response to complaints/compliments in accordance with procedures.

 

3.       Supervision of staff.

 

3.1          In the absence of the Assistant Manager, lead and be responsible for the day to day management of all Unit staff including:

 

a)             Individual supervision

b)             Identification of individual training needs

c)             Identification of disciplinary and performance issues

d)             Deployment of individual staff

 

3.2          In consultation with the Assistant Manager ensure that all staff receive the training and support relevant to their role and to the development of the service.

 

3.3          Promote and participate in an effective communication system that encompasses all staff in order to ensure that they are kept informed about all matters affecting the establishment and their work.

 

3.4          In the absence of the Assistant Manager help manage duty rotas and maintain adequate cover at all times.

 

3.5          Work closely with the Proprietors and Assistant Manager in providing clear leadership in all matters concerning the establishment.

 

3.6          Participate in the oversight of student placements

 

 

 

4.        Management of building and equipment.

 

4.1       Ensure that equipment is used safely and according to manufacturer's instructions.

 

4.2       Ensure that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained throughout the

           Establishment and that all cleaning routines are carried out in full.

 

4.3       Monitor the condition of the fabric of the nursery building and equipment.  

           When necessary, organise emergency repairs and facilitate agreed

planned maintenance programmes.

 

4.4       Ensure the safe use and storage of Nursery property and the integrity of the building.

 

4.5     Ensure adherence to the Establishments policies and procedures relating to the accurate recording, monitoring, handling and safe keeping of cash and other valuables.

 

5.         Associated Duties.

 

5.1       In the absence of the manager liase with external agencies as and when required e.g. Education Department, Social Services, Offsted etc.

 

5.2   In conjunction with the manager ensure the effective operation and development of the establishment's administration and record keeping systems.

 

5.3       Be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of self, staff, children and visitors to the nursery.

 

5.4       Ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.

 

5.5       Ensure that the day nursery operates at all times in accordance with its          Equal Opportunities policy and procedures.

 

5.6       Comply fully with the establishment's confidentiality policy and   procedures.
