• Manage the regional portfolio of design work-packages across a number of projects through allocation of engineering resources to work packages to direct the preparation of signaling designs, estimates and working drawings for signalling works to ensure these are delivered to time, quality, and cost parameters
• Provide support and input to the Project and Engineering Management within the region
• Manage the regional portfolio of design engineering work-packages across a number of projects and deliver these to time, quality, and cost parameters
• Assist the EM in Preparing and update work activity plans for Design Engineers to maximize resource utilization/efficiency
• Consistent implementation of company engineering standards and processes as determined by the VP technology
• Work with the Head of Engineering to achieve efficiencies in the application design lifecycle while promoting engineering excellence, by promoting consistent design practices and the adoption of new design tools and methods of working.
• Champions, sponsors and participates in continuous improvement via proactive CI initiatives
• Prepare and Maintain resource schedule to identify resource requirements to meet short term work bank Surplus / shortfall in employees to be managed via VP Technology
• Conduct regular performance appraisal of key staff and manage their performance
• In conjunction with HR and VP Technology develop specific training to address the competency development requirements
• Ensure Design Staff have the appropriate IRSE licenses and Safety Certification
• Act as mentor to the engineering community and promote personal development via CPD and PDPs
What do I need to qualify for this job?
• Experience of managing large multidisciplinary teams (essential)
• Established Professional status within the signalling industry, will have significant experience of engineering implementation on large signalling schemes in the UK, Experience of overseas engineering delivery and metro signalling an advantage (essential)
• Commercially aware - able to forecast and manage resource utilisation and costs (essential)
• Safety culture aware - to be able to influence and develop an existing safety culture to latest generation thinking and practice (essential)
• Supportive of a consistent companywide approach to continuous improvement (essential)
• Strong leadership qualities including personal drive, persuasive communication skills, enthusiasm and support for company goals (essential)
• A broad base of Engineering skills, experiences, knowledge and competencies covering the full engineering lifecycle, together with the requisite personal characteristics, to take responsibility for facilitating cross disciplinary Engineering activity in complex, innovative and commercially challenging environments (essential)
• Previous experience in Systems Engineering, Project Engineering and Design of safety critical or safety related real-time systems, test and installation environments (essential)
• Strong and effective communicator at all levels within the Business - and in front of new and existing customers - both internal and external (essential)
• Demonstrates an ability to work in an environment where calculated risk taking is necessary (essential)
• Must be willing to fill gaps in own knowledge and experience through taking a pro-active approach to learning, and seeking information from within and outside the company (essential)
