Junior Outsourcing and Technology Lawyer (French)
Summary of Job Purpose:
Cognizant seeks to recruit a junior to mid-level outsourcing and technology lawyer for its newly established Budapest legal centre of excellence. The candidate will play an integral role in the continued expansion of Cognizant’s EMEA business, both in terms of existing service lines and new growth areas.
The candidate will after initial training review and mark-up a broad variety of customer contracts and related agreements for transactions across a range of jurisdictions and industries, focusing initially on French and Dutch businesses. They will be part of the growing EMEA legal team which currently consists of ten lawyers: seven in London; two in Frankfurt and one in Hamburg. This role will involve daily exposure to our clients and Cognizant senior management. Further development into taking over negotiations with clients is possible.
The role will encompass a wide variety of legal and commercial issues and transactions, varying greatly in nature, complexity and value. It will involve work on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages and support other lawyers in negotiations. The candidate will have frequent contact with internal business teams and corporate functions and quickly gain an understanding of Cognizant’s business. Issues relating to intellectual property, data privacy, payment terms and revenue recognition, remedies and liability in the context of IT and BPO services will be particularly relevant.
What we require:
The ideal candidate will have trained in a well-regarded European private practice firm and have between one to four years practice (law firm and/or in-house). Experience of contracting in the field of supply of services is essential; experience working on IT services and outsourcing contracts is a clear plus, as is an interest in the technology industry. Experience of contracting in French law and civil law jurisdictions is strongly preferred.
Skills necessary to fulfill the job successfully include:
Ability to review and draft French language contracts
Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in English
Precision in legal drafting and business communications.
Other European languages are an advantage but not essential.
Knowledge of contract law and practice
Willing to improve ability to assess legal risks in the context of the deal and the wider business, and balance these with commercial needs.
Confidence to act as the “conscience” of the company and escalate where required, guiding decision-makers on key issues
Excellent communicator and able to communicate effectively with people at all levels of our organisation and with our clients; both oral and in writing.
Able to multitask with rapidly changing priorities and to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Self-starter and able to work independently and remotely.
