The Independence team is made up of over 40 people from a variety of different backgrounds. Whilst we are a non-client facing team, we have a vital role to play in enabling PwC's growth whilst protecting our reputation and brand.
Whilst familiarity with PwC's independence rules would be helpful, what is more important is that the individual has excellent coaching and communication skills, a client service mentality and the willingness to learn a new technical area.
About the role
PwC's ambition to grow through acquisitions and development of new innovative ways to serve clients, mandatory firm rotation, the on-going climate of regulatory change and the increased focus on globalisation all mean that PwC's ability to maintain Independence from our audit clients is ever more business critical for PwC.

This role provides an opportunity to help shape how PwC addresses the Independence challenges that face the firm.
The role will be split into a number of distinct areas, but key areas of focus will include:
• Senior level technical advice and support to engagement teams;
• Leading critical project work (see examples below);
• Building and maintaining relationships with the client facing partners and staff across the lines of service;
• Senior stakeholder management;
• Assisting Independence Leadership with strategic direction; and
• Coaching and developing line managers and junior team members

Whilst familiarity with PwC's independence rules would be beneficial, the key attributes that we are looking for are
• Ability to demonstrate clear understanding of commercial / client-facing issues, and empathy with the client facing practitioners who the Independence team support; • Intellectual capacity to make decisions with strong analytical, organisational and project management skill; • Excellent communication skills, able to interact with self-confidence at all levels including at the most senior level, as well as managing internal relationships, e.g. with key stakeholders; • Ability to interact with others' demands providing support and/or influencing, with the flexibility to change behaviour where necessary; • A conscientious, ambitious team player, with good self-management skills and an ability to take initiative; • Strong coaching & people management skills and the ability to drive and motivate teams; and • Multi-directional leadership skills - able to influence the Independence Leadership team and exhibit role model behaviour for junior members of the team to follow
