The HS&E; team consist of three sections; Health and Safety who are responsible for maintain certification to OHSAS 18001, providing guidance to the business and managing H&S; process and reporting on performance against targets. The second section is the environmental team who is reasonable for maintain certification to ISO 14001 and the health and fitness team who deliver a number of H&S; processes and provide support in the area of employee health and wellbeing.
The firm's Health & Safety Management System is certified to the OHSAS 18001 standard and is subject to regular audits by the British Standards Institute. Certification to the standard is a pre-requisite for many clients. Failure to meet the required standard could jeopardise certification, which could result in reputational damage and loss of client income
The team are based in London but there are requirements for the H&S; team members to travel to our regional offices to conduct H&S; building audits as well as our external certification audits
The position is officer grade and you will be responsible for ensuring health and safety processes are running effectively. This role ensures legal compliance and a consistent standard of health and safety management across the firm's UK offices
The key skills, qualifications and experience are
• NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety • At least 1 year experience in a similar working environment. Diploma in Health and Safety management • Experience of auditing to OHSAS 18001 standard
About the role
PwC has 17,000 UK Partners and Staff located in 29 offices across the UK, including Northern Ireland. The central H&S; team provide support to the office managers located in each office and ensure through our auditing process our H&S; processes are being implemented.
The HS&E; is a small team but the work is varied. There is always a challenge and opportunities to share skills across the three sections. The team sit in with in I&P; which is the group responsible for the management of our offices and services to ensure the firm can conduct is business.
A key element of the role is to provide support and advice to the office manager's community, partners and staff and the firms partnering suppliers when required. The post holder will assist in the development and delivery of the training for the office manager community.
You will report directly to the Health and Safety Manager.
Due to staff leaving there is requirement for a H&S; officer to join the team and help drive HS&E; management forward.
The main purpose of the job is to ensure that the wide range of routine tasks and activities which are outlined in the Health & Safety Management System are completed to the required standard and timescales.
You will be expected to provide advice to Partners, Staff and third party contractors in line with PwC policies. This may be in person, by phone or by email.
You will also be expected to provide help and support to Office managers based across the UK and Northern Ireland. This will include training, provision of guidance and support
You will compile and review risk assessments on a regular basis and as requested. Recording and reporting on outcomes to H&S; Manager.
You will conduct H&S; audits of our operational buildings to identify opportunities for improvement, any breaches in compliance and to recommend corrective actions to OM's via an action report which is monitored and updated to ensure closure with the H&S; Manager
You will be expected to complete project work to improve the management of Health and Safety at the firm, increase efficiency of the department, and to ensure continued compliance with relevant H&S; legislation
Internal clients you will engage with are:
• Partners & Staff - requiring assessments on a daily basis. Largely offering advice and recommendations. • Office management network - To provide support and advice on a daily basis, to ensure the training needs are addressed, and processes are adhered to.
External clients you will engage with are:
• External auditors - providing information to external auditors at external assessments to ensure continual certification to OHSAS 18001 • Occupational Health - dialogue maybe required between the H&S; and OH in addressing any health issues raised and requires a joint approach to the solution • Enforcing authority's representatives - on occasions there is a requirement to meet with enforcement officers.
Essential Skills:
• NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety qualification or equivalent. • At least 1 year experience in a similar working environment. Diploma in Health and Safety management • Experience of auditing to OHSAS 18001 standard • Team player
