The function of the Head of Data Science is to head up and continue to grow an expanding Data Science capability.
You will lead the Data Science Team to:
Design and build Data Science products to meet the strategic and tactical requirements of our business and customers.
This will include increasing customer acquisition, customer retention and customer satisfaction, while optimising revenue and costs.

Ensure you and your team are recognised as a key partners across Marketing, Commercial, Tech, Product & Finance teams.
Create and monitor Individual Development Plans with each of your team members, from Junior to Senior level Data Scientists.
Be a Data Science Subject Matter Expert and champion best practice advanced analytics and data science project/data product development approaches.
Identify capacity and skills gaps within the Data Science team and hire new team members accordingly.
Leverage the SQL Data Warehouse & Big Data environments and champion, partner or support across Data Management and Engineering teams to identify needed improvements in data, capacity, process etc.
Champion the needs of your team to ensure data scientists have the technical hardware, software and data they need to deliver effective data science products efficiently.
Contribute expertise to the Data Scientists solution development cycle in terms of technical, analytics, modelling or testing to make sure that data science products are of high quality and fit for purpose.
Oversee the development of effective predictive/propensity/prescriptive models that predict customer behaviour and maximise outcomes e.g campaign impact, customer lifetime value score, churn predict & act, lag measure drivers.
Oversee marketing and customer database analytics such as, segmentation, direct marketing test design, media mix modelling, attribution models, roi analytics, financial modelling
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, or Mathematics is preferred
Masters or PhD in relevant field is beneficial but not required if significant relevant experience can be demonstrated
At least 3+ years of management, supervisory and mentoring experience
At least 7+ years of experience working with large datasets to develop commercial or customer insight and data products
Extensive experience with a broad range of advanced analytics, data mining, statistical modelling, machine learning, operations research & data science techniques with understanding of their applications and pros & cons.
Ideally at least introductory knowledge of applying data science in a big data technologies environment such as Hadoop, Spark as well as extensive experience of more established database technologies
Experienced using some or all of the following: SQL, HiveSQL, R, Python, Scala
Knowledge of data visualisation tools and techniques and how to display data in the best way for maximum impact depending on the audience
Commercially minded with excellent presentation, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
Experience of working with digital business metrics in an e-commerce setting
Passion for all things digital and data science, keeping up to date with the latest technological developments or new techniques and approaches being reviewed in academia
Experience in marketing or media is beneficial
