Description and Desired Qualifications
CH2MHILL has this exciting opportunity for an ecologist to join our ecology team in our London office. We work on a range of public and private sector projects undertaking work in support of Environment Impact Assessment and Planning requirements.
The principal function of this position is to assist in, and lead ecological based projects whilst providing support to the Ecology and Environment team and assistance to other professionals within our company
The priorities of this role include:
• co-ordinating and undertaking ecological surveys including lone working if appropriate and within teams;
• providing ecological supervision on construction sites including Ecological or Environmental Clerk of Works;
• protected species surveys;
• production of clear concise reports; and
• developing ecological management strategies / plans.
Contribution to the full life cycle of projects from EIA and detailed design through to the construction phase, which provides exciting opportunities for the implementation of mitigation, compensation and enhancements works and to deal with real ecological issues on site.
The successful candidate should possess a relevant degree or equivalent and be a member of IEEM and should be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:
Technical skills and experience:
an awareness of current wildlife legislation and policy
experience and capability in ecological survey including habitat identification, Extended Phase 1 habitat surveys, and good botanical skills
strong survey and ecological assessment skills related to terrestrial and preferably also aquatic ecology
experience of undertaking protected species surveys and hold one or more protected species licences (ideally dormice, great crested newts or bats)
experience in Ecological Impact Assessment, mitigation methodologies and production of Environmental Action Plans
experience of preparing Environment Agency EIAs is preferable but not essential.
Construction site supervision:
on-site ecological and environmental supervision, including ensuring adherence to Environmental Action Plans
able to demonstrate an ability to write concise and effective reports;
good use of plain English
reliability and willingness to learn new skills are essential
pragmatic approach and keen to find solutions
able and willing to work in a team as well as individually
Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
