The Design Engineer will be responsible for carrying out design and design production checks on Signalling systems as instructed by more senior Engineers. To be suitable you must have an IRSE design license or have a completed document portfolio and experience in all aspects of design and implementation of Signalling Systems Engineering.
What are my responsibilities?
• Provide functional support and guidance to the Assistant Design Engineer(s) within the team on all aspects of Signal Design within allocated projects.
• Assist in the preparation of technical details, specifications and tenders for Signalling projects.
• Ensure technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of Signalling system work as instructed.
• Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, company procedures and standards.
• Perform duties as directed, from time to time, by the Lead Design Engineer in connection with Signalling design activities.
• Carry out testing and commissioning of Signalling systems as instructed by more senior Engineers.
• Manage own budget/allocated hours for given tasks.
What do I need to qualify for this job?
• HNC/HND or equivalent.
• Hold or be working towards IRSE Designer license.
• Good communication and computer skills.
• Experience in Railway Signalling Design.
• Holder of Personal Track Safety card.
• Good time, task and people management skills.
• Working towards IRSE Principles Designer and/or Verifier license.
• Membership of IRSE or other relevant Engineering Institution.

As of May 2, 2013, Invensys Rail became part of Siemens' Rail Automation Business Unit in the Mobility and Logistics Division within the Infrastructure & Cities Sector.

The Northern Hub is Network Rail's plan to stimulate economic growth in Manchester and the North West by upgrading the rail network and better connecting key UK towns and cities. Manchester Piccadilly for example is being completely redesigned with two brand new platforms, while Liverpool Lime Street and Macclesfield stations are being re-signalled with Westlock technology.
