Siemens Rail Automation is recruiting for a Data Engineering Technician to join the business in Newport, South Wales.
As of May 2, 2013, Invensys Rail became part of Siemens' Rail Automation Business Unit in the Mobility and Logistics Division within the Infrastructure & Cities Sector.
Siemens provides integrated mobility solutions and already has a significant, established rail automation business with sales of €1.4 billion, employing around 6,500 employees. Invensys Rail has been integrated into this unit headquartered in Berlin, Germany. Siemens and Invensys Rail managers form the new management team, combining the regional strengths of both organizations for the benefit of both their customers and employees.
What are my responsibilities?
• Modern train control systems rely upon many data driven systems to be integrated into one state of the art system. The Signalling Control Data Design Engineering Trainee will ensure we have future Signalling Design Engineers who can maintain the highest technical standards in all aspects of Signalling data design work and will be in direct support of the delivery of a number of Siemens' Train Control projects. This will include activities associated with train-borne, Signalling control and interlocking/line-side Signalling. They will also be involved in project planning activities and the resolution of design issues and validation activities
• At the end of this two year training programme you will have a thorough understanding of modern railway Signalling design principles and data production techniques and will have achieved the level of Signalling design engineer and obtained a signaling data design license
• As a Signalling Control Data Design Engineering Trainee you will have already completed some further education in the field of Electronics, Computing or IT. You will spend the first year of the two year programme building the knowledge and skills that you need to become a Design Engineer specalising in data systems. This will be done though a blend of formal training and work based learning under mentorship, under the management of the Capability Manager. In the following year you will spend more time in the Design function under the management of the Design Manager and Mentor to build your 'on and off-the-job' development
• By taking part in and contributing to live projects you will achieve the Competence in outline and detailed Signalling design, with responsibility for the timeliness and the quality performance of allocated project activities. You will also help generate and produce data test regimes and participate in the testing and validation of our projects
• Your learning on the programme will enable you to become responsible for the design data, its accuracy and integrity as well as assisting in the planning and production of associated Signalling related documentation
• During the programme you will attend and successfully complete all training courses on the training programme to help build your experience. You will complete a workplace log book which will allow you to work towards an IRSE Signalling Data Designer License upon completion of the programme
• All activities will be carried out ensuring safe systems are maintained in line with current operating procedures and conforming to current Health and Safety at Work Act and associated Railway Legislation and company codes of conduct
What do I need to qualify for this job?
• NVQ Level 3/4 ONC/HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic/Computing/IT or related subject (essential)
• Good communications and computer skills (essential)
• Flexibility and an ability and willingness to learn (essential)
• Computer literate (essential)
• Some interest/knowledge of railway Signalling or control systems
• Able to communicate and work effectively within a dynamic team environment
• Membership of IRSE or other relevant Engineering Institution
