Our Consulting business specialises in supporting organisations to manage a variety of programmes ranging from large scale transformation programmes to more focused and discrete projects. We work with our clients in a range of industries to support the end to end organisation redesign process. This includes working with leadership teams to identify the organisational implications of their strategy, conducting organisation wide operating model reviews, through to the design and implementation of specific functions and departments.
This requires a team of skilled organisation design practitioners with experience of applying organisation design tools and techniques in a variety of client situations ranging from large scale transformation programmes involving multiple functions, sites and geographies, to more focused and discrete change projects. To be effective, organisational design consultants need to be able to take an analytical approach to understanding how an organisation works in practice, whilst being sensitive to the change impacts, gain buy in and drive behavioural change through the transition to a new organisational structure. They may have a background in strategy, process, HR, or change management and will have experience with organisational restructures or major organisational changes.
About the role
Key responsibilities will include:
• Support discrete end to end organisation design programmes involving a single function, department or site from understanding the organisational implications of strategy through to design and implementation, working closely with the Organisation Design lead, client management and other PwC specialists (e.g. communications, training and capability and performance management).
• Assist in scoping and planning the development of the organisation design components of project and programme plans with a strong emphasis on interdependencies with other programme workstreams e.g. process and system design.
• Conduct interviews and analyse organisation documents and data in the early phases of a programme to help develop a clear understanding of the 'as is' structure, roles and responsibilities and workflow.
• Support development and delivery of workshops and other forums to facilitate the creation of the design principles, and the conceptual and detailed organisation design options, and assess these options (based on the strategy and change vision) with clients.
• Map capability gaps between current and future organisations and creating action plans to address those gaps.
• Collate and analyse HR and people data, to inform an appropriate transition approach and understand the impact of the proposed organisational designs
• Support alignment of the individual roles with process activities, to make sure the roles are functionally complete
• Develop job descriptions for each position within the organisation structure as required, including responsibilities/ accountabilities, competencies, performance indicators and experience required.
• Develop close working relationships with client personnel throughout the design and implementation process sharing knowledge and transferring skills where appropriate.
• Assist in the development of organisation design communication and engagement strategies and support the delivery. For example, drafting written communications or providing content to communications specialists, supporting delivery of face-to-face workshops etc.
• Demonstrate some exposure to other People and Change and Operational competencies such as change management, project management and process redesign.
• Demonstrate flexibility by working on projects and tasks within projects that fall outside the normal scope of organisation design activities.
• Work effectively as part of a cross-functional team, updating other members of the team on progress, raising potential risks or issues, and providing regular feedback to team members. Support the development of the Organisation Design sub-competency assisting in the development of tools and methods, thought leadership and propositions and be an active member of the community.
• Ability to develop close working relationships both internally and externally. • Organisational design focused experience • Experience with organisational restructures or major organisational changes. • Experience work on projects with organisation design components • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. • Awareness of organisation design and change management approaches, tools and methods. • Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. • Degree level education.
• Exposure to wider People & Change and Operational areas, including any of the following disciplines: o Strategy development and implementation o Change management and communications o Training and capability o Human Resources and Employee Relations o Process redesign and implementation • Experience of working in large private and/or public sector clients/ organisations.
