As a part of our specialist offering, we have a strong Ecology team who support a diverse range of projects across a number of sectors both within the UK and internationally for both private and public sector clients. The team pride themselves on the integrated support we offer by working alongside our in-house water, landscape and sustainability specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.

We are currently looking to recruit an early career Ecologist to join the team in our Leeds office.

Job Summary:

Your responsibilities will be aligned to your skill set, experience and grade and you will work collaboratively with the local and national Ecology teams to deliver projects for our clients to high technical, commercial and financial standards. Whilst you will be working for a large company, you will also be working within a small and supportive team of fellow ecologists. It is anticipated that your role will involve both field and office based work and given the nature of ecological consultancy you will be required to work at different times of the day and night as survey protocols dictate. Above all you will be an enthusiastic and resourceful individual keen to make a difference and develop your career.

Training and Work Experience:

The successful candidate will have skills and experience which include ecological field work, report writing and professional consultancy and customer care experience. They will be enthusiastic, confident and motivated with good communication skills and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

The ideal candidates will have the some or all of the following capabilities:

  • Proven surveying and identification skills, to include a range of plant species, extended phase 1 habitat surveys and at least some protected species survey experience;
  • Hold (or be working towards) one or more protected species licence(s) and ideally have experience of protected species mitigation licensing;
  • Knowledge and experience in Ecological Impact Assessment and/or ecological mitigation projects;
  • Sound knowledge of UK & European wildlife legislation particularly relating to commonly occurring protected species and species of high conservation importance;
  • Excellent report writing, with GIS skills an advantage;
  • Proven project management experience including scoping, estimating and tendering for work;
  • Experience of managing and liaising with landowners, clients and stakeholders;
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management at the appropriate grade.
