Citizenship Industrial Placement - Swindon, City, SN38 1NW

We're looking for a current student to join our Citizenship team in Swindon, for their industrial placement year.
Salary: £17,000 on a 12 month fixed term contract.
Send in your application by 21st March 2014.

If you are studying on a course that requires a year out in industry, we have an exciting opportunity to join the award winning Citizenship team on a 12-month Citizenship industrial placement. Over the course of the year you'll typically undertake two business attachments, and we have the same high expectations of you as we do from those on our graduate programme.

In 2012, we launched Living on your Side, a five year citizenship strategy which brings our brand promise to life - to be on the side of our members. With it came the aspiration to take our citizenship to the next level and in doing so make a lasting difference to UK society.

You'll join a face paced, award winning team that thrives on challenge and pus hing the boundaries. For a placement student, the scope to get involved in many aspects of this agenda are wide and varied.
Who we're looking for
Our 12-month Citizenship placement year is available to students currently studying and looking for a placement year.

We're looking for students who are on track for a 2.1 and have 280 UCAS points (excluding General Studies). We don't mind what subject you are studying at university. We're much more interested in the person you are, and how well you are performing in your chosen subject. As long as you have the passion and determination to grow and develop, you'll make a great impact on our business and our customers, who are at the heart of all we do.
This is your first step towards a long and rewarding career with Nationwide, so you'll need to be keen to learn as we'll offer you fantastic training and development opportunities.
Regularly working with teams and senior staff, you'll be confident building and maintaining relationships. If you see something that can be improved, you'll be comfortable making suggestions that will make a real difference, to keep pushing us forward.

So if you have a strong academic record, demonstrate the behaviours we are looking for and take pride in all you do, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
You'll be encouraged to get involved with our 250 volunteer Community Champions, acting as an ambassador for the charities we fund raise for and support our Community Branch and Nationwide Education initiatives. You'll also get exposure to the work we do with our strategic partners Shelter, Macmillan and National Numeracy and get to understand the real social issues that the UK has to deal with, and the role Nationwide has to play in society at large.

Our placement student will take creative ideas through to solution, understand the importance of internal/external communication of our initiatives, build relationships easily, be prepared to fundraise one day and represent Nationwide externally the next - we're looking for a flexible style. Most importantly we want someone who has a passion for this agenda and wants to make a difference to people's lives.
The extras you'll get
If you put a lot in, it's only fair you should get a lot out, as well as your salary, there's life assurance, a pension and a recognition and rewards scheme. We think it's a great place to work, and we're not afraid of giving you praise when you've done well.
Why work for us
At Nationwide we don't have shareholders, we're here for our members and we put their needs first in everything we do. And now, more than ever, two things are helping us go from strength to strength: we put our customers first, and we're known for being open, honest and trustworthy.

We're also the world's largest building society, with communities at the heart of everything we do. We aim to do the right thing for our members which helps set us apart from our competitors. But we need good people to help us do it. People who understand what we believe in, and have the talent and drive to keep us successful.
