Account Director (PUBLIC SECTOR) - Warwickshire, Birmingham, B12 8

Our client is currently seeking to immediately appoint a 'experienced' Account Director

The successful candidate will need to have extensive experience of the following:

  • Winning, developing and retaining business from within an existing complex customer portfolio, in excess of £15m p.a., on a National basis.
  • Building strong customer relationships with all decision-makers within the defined account base, both horizontally and vertically, in order to enhance the strategic relationship.
  • Supporting the New Business Associates on pre-engagement for prospective customers, as well as the implementation of new business to high levels of compliance.
  • Achieve all Sales, IMU and Profit targets and comply with departmental and/or individual Success Criteria.
  • Maximise the profitability of the customer portfolio by working with internal key stakeholders and through strong high level negotiation with the customer stakeholders
  • Develop vertical market specific value propositions and strategies in line with company


To develop and implement an annual business plan for each account to ensure profitable delivery and business growth.

Leading a Sales team and/or administration support staff to ensure operational targets and strategic objectives are achieved; either directly or via a matrix structure.

Key job requirements:

Manage one or a portfolio of large strategic corporate clients to maximise their retention and profitability and through a structured account management process.

  • Develop, implement and execute account business plans aimed at identifying opportunities for growth and profitability, and therefore positively impacting the revenue, margin, EBIT and/or service levels within the accounts.
  • Identify and develop through to implementation growth and profitability opportunities following the Miller Hieman green and blue sheet methodology
  • Recommend improvements / enhancements to sales systems, tools and procedures
  • Prepare and submit tenders for the supply of products and services and/or work closely with the internal Tender narrative and pricing teams in order that this is done effectively; plus retain all accounts through the tendering period, via the adoption of the highest levels of customer service and overall client relationship
  • Comply with specific cash management objectives, including although not limited to: customer debt; project 'O' and rebate management.
  • Maintain and deliver suitable levels of management information to both internal and external customers.
  • Maintain product pricing levels in line with contractual terms and specific profitability targets
  • Lead major high level sales presentations and facilitate senior-level customer facing meetings.
  • Develop, audit and renew networks and develop productive and effective working relationships at all levels of the business, both internally and externally
  • Measure and monitor 'customer satisfaction through a structured assessment process and liaise with the marketing function in order to implement recommendations for future improvements.

  • To lead, develop and manage a team of internal and external sales associates and support executives to ensure complete skill set development as well as achievement of strategic and operational objectives. Or, where not directly managing people, provide strategic leadership and direction for specific customers or contracts through matrix management.

  • Where managing people, to ensure monitoring and maintenance of all systems and processes in line with departmental or individual Success Criteria
